This is my kalanchoe I've had for years and it has thrived. It's always had the bent shape since it was little. It had enough sun and I don't believe it was reaching as I would regularly spin it. Recently it lost leaves from the big stem and then just uprooted itself from its pot. I did repot it this spring. I trimmed the roots it came up with and have left it on the counter for two weeks to see if I would be able to replant as I saw online not to place it in water. I have been spritzing the roots and leaves with water. The roots seem so small… do you think this is salvageable? Should I just repot the babies? Did I do the wrong thing by leaving it on the counter? What should I do?

Why did you cut off the roots?

It won't grow roots sitting on the counter. Pot it up and prop it up with sticks and string until it grows more roots.

Are you certain that isn't a Crassula?

Either way, I'd cut a couple, cor several, of those stems, let them callous for a few days, then stick them in slightly moist, very gritty, free draining soil and don't water until you can see new growth or a gentle tug indicates root formation. Place in warm, bright spot (south window). Might take awhile to see results because of the time of year. Stop spraying them with water.

Hedge your bets by planting the roots as well, but those tiny roots might be challenged to support that entire plant.

I didn't cut off the roots. It fell out and was like that. But it wasn't soft like it rotted. All I did was trim off the very end of the roots. I read to just lay it out to dry for a week or two.
