Thread OP

I am a first time Bell Pepper Grower. I have 18 mature plants started from seeds, now fruiting in 5 gallon buckets. A few weeks ago I moved them indoors and am using grow lights the nights are starting to get to cold to leave them outside. They are in excellent shape except the past week I noticed the skins on many of the peppers have turned dull and no longer have a shine to them. I fertilize regularly and up to the past week have been so excited to see them flower and turn into little peppers and now growing like crazy into real bell peppers. Does anyone know what might be causing the surface to dull and have no luster?????

Would appreciate any advice or help. Thanks so much, Dan Springfield MO

Welcome to NGA, @danwilson1953 Smiling

Congratulations on successfully growing all those peppers from seed for the first time! My first thought about the dull appearance to the peppers was that they are overly mature - how long have they actually been growing?

Thread OP

I started in mid June and the first of September they started fruiting. The last few weeks they developed nicely, once I moved them indoors they did really well peppers getting bigger everyday, the past week they have stopped growing and most of them are dull now. I am not sure if it is a light issue. I just got another grow light yesterday and am going to add some more light and spread them out and give them more room to absorb more light. I am thinking I should cut off the dull peppers and give the plant some more time to develop more peppers with more light. Any thoughts?

As above, my first guess would be that you may be lucky enough to see your peppers colour up... When they turn red or yellow / orange... They're much tastier than eating them before they're mature.

I wouldn't get in a hurry to cut them off...

Cut one, see how it is to eat. With the conditions, they may not be able to get any bigger.
18 mature peppers, that's a lot of grow lights.
Plant it and they will come.

You can see some peppers are dull and some are shinny.
Trying to figure out why some are dull.

Plant it and they will come.

The thing is...
When I bring my pepper plants indoors out of the direct sun... they always decline.
I'm not seeing anything that would concern me.

I feel like I see dull peppers when a branch has broken and I find it later, drying out.
Plant it and they will come.
