When I lived in Dearborn many years ago, I used to start over 20 flats of annuals every year. Lots of calendula:) Some 25 years ago I moved to the country and focused on growing perennials, shrubs and trees. Many years the only annuals I grew were tomatoes. This year I built a few new garden beds and rekindled my interest in annuals. Next year I plan to grow even more:)

The birds love sunflowers. Autumn Beauty sunflower from this year...

So many wild daisies here that I can't bring myself to plant any on purpose... although there are also a lot of black-eyed susans, and I still plant Rudbeckia Thinking .

Then, one year I broadcast 3 packets of Lupine seeds, mixed colors. The seeds dropped between the perennial plants in the wood chips.
For us, zone 4b, it is a bi-annual, so in late Spring early Summer of year 2, it was a laugh out loud moment every time I strolled through the flower garden.

I agree !
I still smile when look at the pictures.
The nice thing about lupine are the vibrant colors the breeders are coming up with.

Family Asteraceae (ass-ter-AY-see-ee). Heirloom.

Lupines are flowers from my childhood. They were growing everywhere like weeds. Couple years ago I was trying to start them at home and failed. Might be a good idea just spread them in soil. Thumbs up
