Thread OP
Central NY, North of Syracuse
We are in Central New York and have a large wild flower garden for our bees that was put in last year with number of tulip bulbs and a couple bags of wildflower mix. The garden started out beautifully but then near the end of summer it was completely over run with rag weed, although there were flowers still trying to break through.
My question is what different bulbs can I put in this fall that will bloom at different times through the season next year. Now that I know what ragweed looks like I will be able to keep that down by weeding.
I don't know if the ragweed was in the flower mix or not but I'm a little apprehensive about putting more out there unless somebody has some suggestions.

Down here, we can plant a bunch of different summer and autumn flowering bulbs, but most of those can only be grown in NY by digging in the autumn and storing in the basement.

Not sure that you can grow much beyond tulips and narcissus.
Maybe peruse a bulb catalog and check the zone hardiness before ordering..,.
Something interesting that you could grow in the shade garden is dog tooth violet... and probably virginia bluebells...

The ragweed seeds were likely in the soil bank... ragweed is pretty common.

I used to live in New England and we grew many flowers from bulbs including daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips - no digging and storing required, but they all bloom in the spring.

There are some alliums that will bloom in late summer or fall, also autumn crocus. If you check online bulb souces, I'm sure you'll find others that bloom at various times.
