My first attempt failed earlier in the summer so I want to try to root cuttings again from a swamp milkweed I purchased this spring. It had three stems and one of the stems was variegated. I assume it will die back to the ground this winter. (I'm in zone 6) and may not come back variegated.
If I get it to root now, will it still need a dormant period?
Should I keep it in the house where it's warm and then move it back outside after it roots?
I only had enough for three cuttings which I took this morning and I dipped those in rooting hormone powder and stuck them in seed starting mix. Probably not the best choice but that's what I had on hand. I used a gallon water jug that I cut part way around to use as a mini greenhouse.
I have mixed luck at rooting things. Sometimes I get moldy leaves that drop off. Would it help to spritz it with diluted peroxide?

It will probably still go dormant.

I'll be curious to hear what happens. If I'm trying 3 of something new, I usually try to do 3 different things in case one or 2 of them doesn't work. Like not putting all the eggs in 1 basket.

But then you also have to have multiple of each different process, otherwise you will have to worry the failure was the outlier.

Well they've dropped a couple leaves already so it doesn't look good. I was hoping it would survive long enough to bloom next summer so I could see if the flowers were different from the rest of the plant. The cultivar was Cinderella. I had lots of Monarch cats this summer so it was munched on quite a bit. I would have had more to take cuttings from if not for the caterpillars but I love them. : )

The leaves were green and yellow but aged to green and cream.
