Thread OP
8b Texas
I repotted my orchid which was doing fine and blooms regularly (twice a year). I do not know the variety, but it is the common type bought in the grocery store flower shops. I decided it needed to be repotted because it had been in the pot for several years! I repotted using orchid potting soil/bark and it is not doing well. Before I had a little regular potting soil mixed in . I decided it needed more watering, now the leaves are wrinkled. Is that too much moisture? My location is 8b Tx. Orchid in kitchen window

Hi plangrph!
A picture of your plant could be helpful, but using only your description, I would think it could be a Phalaenopsis, also called Moth orchid.
My question would be, what kind of medium was it growing in?
I have found a lot of the time, they are potted in pure sphagnum moss. This tends to hold much more moisture. Did you repot into the same pot? Or a new one? Usually, when I have one that's showing a wrinkling of leaves, it's telling me that I've neglected it too long, and would like more water.
I have personally had more luck with a 70/30 mix of bark, and sphagnum, because I do tend to neglect them. *Blush*
Hope I've been of a bit of help.
Please post a pic if you can.

Sorry, I re- read your post.
"A little potting soil mixed in"
Missed that the first time.
Could be the issue? Gave it more moisture retention? Which is where my 70/30 mix might be similarly aiding with moisture. Or, the plant could be just going through an adjustment period. Like breaking in new shoes. *Blush*

With so much of this discussion leaning toward the amount of moisture the plant is getting, I would unpot it and give the roots a very careful inspection. A shriveled plant IS a good sign of not enough water, but it is also the exact same symptoms that an orchid plant with root rot gives you. With root rot there are no viable roots to transport water (meaning nutrients) to the plant, and the plant looks exactly like it is water starved before it dies.

A very good point, Billsc! Really hoping @plangrph comes back with some pics.
