Hi
@markwc61,
Welcome to NGA!
To make it easier to remove the ivy from the walls, cut off all the shoots at ground level and wait a day or two or three, until they are wilting allover. The lose of water will make them lighter in weight and the aerial roots and "holdfasts" will lose some of their grip. That makes them easier and less bulky to pull down. Don't wait until they are completely dry - then they might fragment and leave pieces still on the wall.
That's the way I handle vines of any kind that escape our attention until their leaves are peeking through a window taunting us.🤨
Then we use some paint-on stump killer on the stump, which is our taunt back😉 It's an 8 ounce bottle with a small brush built in under the cap. One dab will kill any stump 1/2" or less in diameter. Bigger ones may take two. It goes a long way.
It's the same concentration and active ingredient as the Bioadvanced brush killer, which we use diluted in a backpack sprayer for shrubs, and vines on trees (but not the house). We refill the little brush top bottle with this concentrate. Notice this also says it can be used undiluted to kill stumps.
