But I bought this too because of the caudex:

Those are both great buys! I really wish any place near me sold adeniums, even if I had to drive for an hour I'd be happy!

@GigiAdeniumPlumeria That's lovely! Such deep colour and the caudex is beautiful. Just imagine the majesty of that caudex in a few years.

I agree You and me both!

I've even gone as far as to begin making plans to go to the nearest place to me that sells them this summer. It's a 14.5 hour drive one way. Whistling I do have a cousin who lives in the area that I really want to go visit and it would be a nice vacation.

I could see me taking a short driving vacation for a few days even without relatives to visit! Hilarious! Maybe I'll start looking for further out places...

Nancy by the rate my desert roses are producing seedpods, you might not have to drive far anymore. You can just hybridize your blooms and you can just grow them from seeds! The challenge though is getting these seedlings to produce multi-petals or unique blooms! Then you can graft your multipetals into the seedlings and start your own collection.

Ugghh I have so many of my classic (original purchase) grafted desert roses have root rots or stem rots!

Thankfully these are the grafted ones, which if I totally can't revive them it will still hurt but I can at least buy the replacement since these are grafted. This is why, my goal next year is to propagate cuttings of my multipetals and my own seedgrown multi-petals as back up. I' m getting good with grafting so that is a plus.

I only have a few more weeks before our spring is here so if the original plant will not survive, I am hoping the cuttings would, then I can graft them to my own seedling.

Anyways, happy times some blooms to start our new year!

I bought this deep red single petal, which reminds me of Sweetie Pie and this is seed grown Arabicum hybrid (fuzzy leaves underside but dark green wider leaves and multibranch), nicknamed "Strawberry Pie".

Based on my own seedling from a multi petal "Rainbow Diamond" the seedlings can definitely bloom single petals:

@GigiAdeniumPlumeria. As I have mentioned before I no longer graft Adenium. I used to graft them but the very condition that you are seeing affected mine. After four or five years the grafted plants developed rot of one sort or another and eventually die. To be clear about this I am talking about mature plants that have had branches grafted to them. I have no experience in grafting seedlings. I have also had very poor results when I try to root mature stems of plants that have started to rot even though the cuttings showed no signs of rot. I do have a good number of six + years old stem cuttings on their own roots that were taken from non grafted plants. These plants develop good root systems that can be raised for effect. Also, I have a number of five + years old non grafted plants that developed rot that I was able to save even though they looked unsalvageable.

Thank You! @Wildbloomers those photos are encouraging! All 3 that rotted were grafted but one I purchased as seedgrown. I might be able to save 2 only.

And yes, I have the same experience with the cuttings, the grafted ones are harder to root compared to the seedgrown cuttings. I have been experimenting different ways to propagate the cuttings. My most recent experiment is to just stick the "healthy" cuttings in a dry potting soil and then enclose in a humidity dome (plastic cup or water bottles). I just place them in area that gets morning sun, with no water for 3 weeks. Then I would occasionally spray the soil but not the base of the cuttings just to keep the soil damp. I have so far 💯 success rate this way. Also have some success with water rooting. The cuttings with big roots are pretty too!

Pretty soon, I probably will not need grafted once my own hybridization produce multi petals blooms. I have yet to see a multipetal blooms. Whistling

Well, Happy Belated New Year to everyone Hurray! Haven't been watching this forum, so I have a Lot of reading to catch up !

Wanted to mention I've found a 'Good Cheap Grit' for adenium soil mixes: Aquarium Gravel ! (may not be the 1st to use this, but it cheap) If you want you can even color coordinate the gravel to the blooms. Thinking I prefer the Natural color browns/tans.

Where can you buy aquarium gravel? Walmart has them but it is kind of pricey. I had been buying the crushed granite chicken grit. They are cheaper.
