hey!

i have a prop box where i grow some wet sticks in damp sphagnum moss, and i've been noticing gnats larvae in it. what's the best way of treating it?

If it is available in your area, try Bt-i (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis). This is the least toxic treatment I know of.
Carefully follow instructions on the product label.
This will not completely eliminate them forever, it will be necessary to re-treat occasionally.

Yup. I place a small chunk of a Mosquito dunk into my watering cans. But you have to use sticky traps for the adults. The dunks kill off the larva in the soil. Preventing future
generations.

Bt-i is also use to treat standing water against mosquitoes. You might check if any anti-mosquito products with Bt-i are available. Here, I use mosquito bits, they work fine against fungus gnats.

How about some yellow sticky traps? If you don't want to buy them, you can make them out of yellow painted cardboard and vaseline.
