my suspect is that the actual Hosta is died down for some reason slug or other pest or just dormant. Hosta and Aucuba are great shady plants, it is not rare that in many garden they are planted in combo at the same spot. they are complementary, the Aucuba will provide interest while Hosta goes dormant, since they are evergreen
To move a photo You could click the image and scroll down
click the "Move this image to another plant" it will lead to another page. then just fill in the blank box with Aucuba japonica, or use "search" icon.
Since there is no Aucuba japonica Mon Hinsuru entry yet on this site, I think the general Aucuba japonica entry will just great. The admin will then approve the moving suggestion later
