Hi there! Ive had this Jade plant for over 10 years. Over the past couple years Ive noticed these brown scaly like lesions on the lower leaves. An initial google search said might have been a watering issue but looking again today some people say it might be "scale" if it scrapes off the leave. I tried using rubbing alcohol and that doesnt take it off but when i scrape it with my fingernail it comes off. Does anyone have any idea what this is and if I can treat it? New leaves are unaffected. Any suggestions welcome Ive had trouble finding clear answers online!

Welcome! to the site!
It isn't scale insects. Those are distinct round bumps, not irregular 'scratches'. It could be past damage from mites or thrips, but more likely damage from watering issues. Try to let it dry out a little more between waterings.

It may just be the release of something - I don't remember what - that Jades do. Salts? When they never get rained on, little white freckles can form. That is what is on this Jade. Normal, harmless.

Could the asked-about appearance form from an extended period without a rain or rinse? IDK, my plants get rained on when outside for summer.

Its edema. Its caused when the plant has more moisture in it than it can use. The excess is forced out through the cell walls leaving behind scars. Its not necessarily caused by overwatering - it could be poor air circulation combined with humidity and cool temps.

@lucy68 thank you-that is reassuring! Smiling I was hoping this was the case and not a pest. I'll he sure to be more attentive to its water requirements and it's habitat within my home! Thank You!
