Hey there, Iris experts!

I have about twenty or so Iris, and they had gone dormant for winter. Our winters here, if you're just counting snow and freezing weather, last for about five-six months (November-April). That's not a problem, because the Iris just stay dormant during that time. However, this year we have been having extremely unusual warm temperatures for January, and for about a week and a half straight we've had above-60F temps. That's something we've only seen in April, when spring is coming.

That being said, the Iris have been fooled into thinking it's spring, and all twenty of the Iris are sending up leaves already. It's still February, so I doubt we're not going to see another below zero week, or at least a couple days of below zero temps.

My question is: will this kill the Iris? And if so, is there some way I can save them? They are planted in a garden outside.

Thanks so much, and any help is appreciated!

They'll be fine. The only time cold weather really causes any problems for them is after they have initiated a flower stalk. Even then, it doesn't kill them, just messes up the bloom for the season. Welcome to spring on the Great Plains. Smiling
