Stay safe @tarev! I've been waiting to hear from long time family friends in the San Diego area but no news yet. The images on t.v. of the flooding, mudslides, rock slide damage and hearing of the avalanche in one part of the state are really scary. Keeping good thoughts that everyone stays as safe as possible.

My sister lives in that area, too. Just got a text from her: she was just released from jury duty only to hear there is a tornado warning exactly where she is, El Cajon. Plus it's pouring and she's 30 miles from home. Time to stop for a long lunch!

Wow, thanks for sharing the link tarev, that video footage is unbelievable! So much damage. So scary. Praying for the safety of everyone still in the path of this weather system. It will be a long, daunting task of recovery for many.

Oh my, that is very scary. I do hope that your sister stops for a long lunch! I'ts better to shelter in place somewhere than to be on the road for a 30 mile trip home in such inclement weather.

We had hurricane-force winds in Sonoma County while it was raining. A huge branch of my neighbor's oak tree crashed onto my screened porch, broke part of my fence and a big arbor, and knocked my cable wire off the telephone pole.

It took Xfinity three days to come and reattach my cable, during which I had almost no contact with the outside world. No cable meant no Internet, no TV, and no landline phone. I don't own a radio or a cell phone and I don't have the energy to walk to a neighbor's house. Luckily, a friend came over and called the cable company every day for three days until a tech finally arrived.

Then it was time to deal with the tree. My neighbor called his tree guy yesterday. The guy climbed up into the tree and started sawing everything off the tree into my flower beds, including huge log-shaped pieces that broke more of the fence, five redwood planters, and half a dozen ceramic pots. The guy's helpers then stomped their way into the flower beds to remove the logs and branches, breaking shrubs, small trees, vines, and other plants off at ground level with their boots. The seven roses they massacred might come back from the roots, but I'm not sure if the Podranea or the lilacs, hydrangeas, and spiraeas will.

Oh, well... at least the tree didn't fall on a more important part of the house. The roof of the screened porch is not connected to the main roof of the house, so it could have been much worse.

Zuzu, It is so sad to hear about the damage that mother nature wreaked in California. I know it must have been extremely stressful and I am so glad that you are okay and that your home is intact after the horrible weather.

I hope your neighbor will shoulder some of the financial responsibility for the damage done to your arbor, fence, etc. It sounds like you were dealt a double whammy with his tree crew destroying part of your garden in the process of trimming and cleaning up the tree debris! Grumbling

Here on the east coast I always dread heading into summer because of the threat of hurricanes and the awful destruction that the winds can cause. Sighing! I always wish that I could have a second home to escape to, somewhere far away, somewhere that doesn't have the threat of hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, etc. but I know that no place is exempt from bad weather.

I'm just glad to hear that you are okay and that your home wasn't seriously damaged. Group hug

Zuzu very sorry to hear about all the damage to your property and flower beds. Wow very careless tree guys. Here they are so careful . But under the circumstances with everything backed up you were lucky to get any help that soon. Sometimes I wait weeks before our power is back on. It's a lot of extra work just to stay warm. We have a back up generator and it's a hassle . No power is a pain no heat and no water in my neck of the woods and cooking is not even close with zero power. I have animals that depend on me I just can't leave and check into a hotel.
It's almost like camping in your own house . I hope you stayed warm and managed to have meals and time to recover from the ordeal.

Sending lots of garden fairies to help put your garden back in order… keep us posted .🧚‍♀️🧚🏽‍♂️🧚🏼

Thanks, Bea. I also have no heat or water when the power's out. Luckily, the power was out for only a few hours, but it did make me nervous because I'm oxygen-dependent now and the oxygen concentrator had no power.

Blinking That is extremely worrisome and downright scary! Sure glad your power wasn't out for an extended period and hopefully if you ever have to dial 911, they will arrive quickly!

If the power's out, I won't be able to dial 911.
