That's lichen, not fungus. Not dangerous itself, but could be a sign that your tree isn't getting enough sun. What the orientation?

Got it , thanks! The tree is in the courtyard and facing the building on 3 sides. The only open side is facing East.

Good news! Lichen growing on trees is a sign that the air in the area is healthy. It will not hurt your tree.
