Were it not for the bright orange berries on high I would have thought this tree dehydrated and dead.

It is just sleeping.
It already has very strong healthy buds.

Looks a lot like Persimmon.

Diospyros ...common name Persimmon tree is very rare in UK.
We grew Diospyrus virginiana in our old garden in South wales UK...pic below
I never saw any flowers or fruit.
I would like to see clear close ups of the mystery tree fruit.
Malus or Crataegus would be my first guess

I wasn't sure how common they are over there.
The bark looks a little rough for Malus, I'm not familiar with Crataegus. That isn't common here, although where it gets colder it is.

There is a Mexican Crataegus in the botanical garden here that looks very similar and has orange fruit hanging even now.

Thanks.
Malus now eliminated.
Left with Crataegus sp...one that does not have sharp thorns.
Please add pics of the leaves when they are full out /flowers etc.

I see the calyx at the end there, so Crataegus still seems likely. Medlar doesn't usually turn orange, but has a similar fruit.

Mespilus germanica..common name Medlar is grown in UK.
Especially in old gardens.
The fruits are very distinctive , weird and wonderful and much larger than any Crataegus fruits.

Not quite full bloom, but definitely on the way.

There only one of the visible berries from before now, that I could see.

Well done going back again to look at the same tree.
I would not expect to see any/many berries at this time if year.
They will either have dropped of or have been eaten by the birds.

Terminology...By the way...bloom is a term that normally refers to a tree when it is flowering.
It does not usually mean the tree coming into leaf.

I am still going with Crataegus sp.
No idea how to say which one it might be.
Wiki shows a long list.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Maybe Crataegus lavellei ?????

The brown red bits are dead..part of the outer covering of the flower buds I think.

Persimilis, maybe? I can't find one with the same leaves as the one in question.
