Thread OP

Hello,

I have a large apple tree in my backyard. This last year or so I noticed that the trunk started to get covered in some areas by green moss or fungus. What should I use to get rid of it and keep the trunk clean?

Thank you,
Maxwell.

It is lichen, a co-operation of a fungus and an algae. It is completely harmless and you don't need to do anything to it.

I agree
Lichen will not harm your tree. Where Lichen grows is a sign of healthy air, so that's good news.

I agree (mostly) with the above comments, but lichens can provide a place for pests to hide and overwinter, so we scrape them off the trunks periodically. Your lichens look very young, so there is no hurry.
