Hello...I am in Tampa, Florida and have a Mango tree that I had these white things on it. Need some help in identifying what it is so I can treat it...Thanks.

It might be white mango scale, Aulacaspis tubercularis, and apparently pretty nasty. The articles I found were mostly scholarly papers. Here's a start for you

I think you are right on with that...I couldn't find that anywhere! I did spray it last night with Bonide Pyrethrin which from what I can find might bring it under control...Also I dabbed some neem oil on a rag and wiped all the scale off these small mango potted trees. I hope this helps others...Thanks again!

Fortunately my mango trees are small so I am able to inspect every leaf and stem for these little pests. I think that suffocating the scale with neem spray along with spot checking and removing them with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab. I just have to be careful with all these chemicals trying to eliminate the scale before the Florida temps start to rise and ending up killing my trees. My battle continues with this scale invasion!

Wow...it is really tough to kill off these pests! I purposely kept a leaf with scale on it so I can see what works and what doesn't. I first tried Pyrethrin and no effect. Then neem concentrate and that seemed to still keep the scale on the leaf. I then would dab it with alcohol and soap mixture but still it hangs on. I would like to have results with pictures but nothing changed so I gave up after two weeks of treatment and just physically removed the scale with a cotton pad with alcohol wherever I saw it. Maybe scale is just a long term type of removal?

How the heck does scale die? I saw no effect from an exterior point of view with the same number of scale as I did before from just spraying. The only thing that I think I could try at some other time is a cold press neem and allow it to be absorbed into the plant leaves and root system and see if killing the scale from inside out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please don't get me wrong, I know you are struggling mightily with this issue. Bugs can be so tough! And I am currently having a similar problem with aphids. Many different kinds have been plaguing me for 2 years and it's been a challenge but this month a new 'super ninja aphid' has shown up which takes the fight to a whole new level. So, I feel for you.

But you might want to make sure that they are still alive. They stick to the plant and don't fall off once they're dead.

Trying2begreen, I was struggling to find something about that specific scale, but @SedonaDebbie has raised an excellent point a about the possibility that they are in fact dead and still stuck. Regardless, she's provided a superb, comprehensive article about scale.

Thank you. I wasn't sure how to say it as nicely as possible without sounding snarky. But I was also being honest that I know some pests are over the top unstoppable. I now have aphids that don't wash off, really thick horticultural soaps + neem oil don't bother them in the least. Another story. I mostly want to be as supportive of her as possible. These things can really get you down.

Debbie, I wouldn't have considered it a snarky remark...perfectly logical thing to consider. I don't know if you glanced at that link, but these guys are apparently a worldwide scourge of the mango industry.

@Trying2bGreenThumb, topical controls aren't very effective for scale. I don't know if you ran across recommendations for a systemic control in your research, but that is one way but not a great option either. Big HOWEVER, any bees or other pollinators feeding from the nectars of any flowering plant within the drench range, including the mango, can be poisoned and you won't want this year's fruit. Pretty big tradeoff. I wouldn't recommend an outdoor systemic, just letting you know about the method.
