A sometime blooming, in my yard, dormant I find this diploid cultivar unimpressive: yellow self, small size, very short scape, slow fan expansion, although I have had it since at least 2006, so it is a historical survivor, and it bloomed last year to avoid bad things happening to it. Only one registered child (1988) and no grandchildren shows it has been of little use in hybridizing.
Why this cultivar has multiple awards is beyond my reckoning.
Maybe it does better Up North
I'd rather have Stella de Oro for a small short yellow flower.

I've had Yellow Lollipop for many years. Dave is right, it doesn't expand much ( just 10 fans after more than a decade) but mine blooms for about three weeks, about an EM, from late June to mid July. Last year was a particularly good year for YL, I counted more than 40 blooms on it. It's in a perfect location for a short plant, near the front of the bed, near a pretty pink Astilbe that blooms at the same time. It's sort of shady there, so I think it does ok.
