Thread OP
zone 7b Jersey Shore
Recently planted 3 one quart size pee wee oakleaf hydrangeas in this raised bed. My plan is to also scatter some annual and perennial wildflower seeds in this spot as well for additional summer color. Also, I plan on growing wildflowers here at least until the oakleaf shrubs fill out and mature which could take a few years. So, what should I do about mulching? Just leave the dried up wildflowers in place over winter to act as a mulch or just use a bit of mulch around the shrubs only? If I were to not plant those wildflower seeds, I probably would add a few inches of cedar mulch now and call it a day. Any thoughts? Thanks

Where we put the seeds? I wouldn't mulch.
Mulch prevents seed germination...

If you want the plants to self sow?
Leave the plants where you want the seed to come up, no additional mulch.

Spreading mulch around the shrubs? Sounds like a good idea.
