What is this?

Dracaena 'Compacta'

Will it take over a flower bed? I got it from a friend and I don't want it to do that. Is it invasive? Annual? I know nothing of it. Google says it is a corn plant or something like that or a Chinese money tree. I don't think that's right

Dracaena (Dracaena fragrans 'Janet Craig Compacta') Common name Corn Plant only because it resembles one.

It's a houseplant for anyone below zone 9b.

Or you could bring it inside. Makes a great houseplant by a sunny window.

I never gave had a houseplant and sunny windows are there but the better half would more then likely say, it doesn't go with the drapes or something.

Maybe. Or if truly a better half, might say, "Why are we just now getting our first houseplant?"

I can't get into that personal stuff but since you seem to be actively against having a houseplant, am curious how you came to own this plant? In the locations with frozen winter, houseplants are usually in a different section in a store and there's usually a distinction about which are the landscape plants and which are usually bought for a potted accent inside. But maybe I just need to visit or hear about more stores to get a better grip on how they "usually" are.

Idk how to reply directly to someone but yes, I got it from a friend. I love gardening but indoor plants are not for me. Spill dirt on floor or water, pecker gnats, and my 70 lb dog may try to eat it. Seen her eat stranger things, including vegetation
