Ditto!
Nice podcast, especially on a dreaded topic such as "HEAT" in the garden. Yikes!

Glad to hear mention of "don't water so fast there is run-off"; the recommendation to allow the water to slowly percolate down is sage advice. I can't remember if over-head watering was mentioned (hey, it was five or 6:am this morning when I started listening, pre-coffee time) but I hope people give it up and move to soaker hoses or drip tape for best results, especially in veggie beds and small flower beds. As for those drooping 20' crepe myrtles, ya just gotta do the best you can with what you have to work with in those cases. And keep in mind to not water the trunk of trees (again, a common mistake) but to water the outer area just inside the dripline of the canopy. I sure hope ya'll don't go thru another big time drought like last year (or year before) where you lost established trees.

Whew, all that talk of 100º temps has me heading to the fridge for a cold drink of something! Keep in mind us gardeners need to be well watered also and perhaps "overhead watering" is the one time I'd recommend it...run through the sprinklers with your children! Have a water hose fight! Sneak up behind your parents and dump a bucket of water on them. (You hear me, Whitinger kids?) Whistling And water balloons are fun, too!

Well done, Dave and Trish.
Thanks!

That's good info, Shoe, thanks for all that. I did mention the advantages of drip tape/soaker hoses and I'm a firm believer in it. Overhead spray is only really good for temporary hard to hit spots and lawns. I was in error to not mention the need to take care of people in the heat! You're right and I wish I had mentioned that. Hopefully they'll read the comments here and see your good advice. Thumbs up

Water hose fights are fun. Smiling So is a horse trough full of water. Smiling Here's some photos of the summer of 2003.

Heheheh, what fun pictures! Perfect! Especially the last one...it's extremely important children learn to use a water hose to squirt for distance, eh!? :>) You look soaked! They learned fast, didn't they! Those sure are some happy children.

A mere 86º here today but I should go find a horse trough for later this week. Smiling
