Sitting out by the garden yesterday and butterflies were most plentiful all summer.
Sadly some were cabbage buttervermin.
I have a '92 Buick Roadmaster that has sat all summer as I have not had the 185 bucks to put in totally new breaklines but I opened the door to cool the interiord down and was greeted by some large wasps, probably Yellow Jackets that buzzed around me and then went about their business.

There are still some around here, though the wet weather probably has them huddled up some where.
I am wondering what bugs I will see later this week when I warms up before a frost?

I did see several mourning cloaks last week, they seem to like the weeping birch tree. Smiling

Still no butterflies that I can remember but I saw one hummingbird type moth last week and a LOT of different types of Dragonflies this year and a Deer Fly took nip out of my hand last week.
As I planted Kale, Broccoli Cauliflower this year, I am sure I will see plenty of butterflies some where down the road.

I have been seeing a few western swallowtails, mourning cloaks, a few smaller varieties that I was not close enough to id, lots of small blues.

Saw my first butterfly yesterday, a Monarch.
Went up to Detroit Lakes for the Fourth of July and Sharon's sister said they had quite a few up there this year.
Still have not seen a honey bee.

We have just started having butterflies, lots of bees and bumbles but only starting this week

Saw a mourning cloak, and a common ringlet today, the past week have seen a few small ones, and one western swallowtail. No honey bees, and bumble bees way down so far.

I have a few whites and yesterday I saw a sulfur on a marigold, got a photo through the window, don't know how good it will be, saw a few other small ones, a couple of skippers. Still almost no honey bees, few hover flies, only small bumble bees. Sighing!

I saw a Yellow Swallowtail today, and some Honey Bees a day ago.
The Cleome are in full bloom attracting bees.

I have seen a fair number of larger butterflies this spring/summer but not many small ones.

I have a yard full of White Clover, and I will admit I do not sit out a gaze over it like I would have in the past but have not seen any bees in it while when spring flowers were blooming I saw quite few bees including honey bees.
I miss sitting out side with the other half but she is not tolerant of hot weather at all now, plus when we first moved here there was no air conditioning and we were simply tougher back then.

Down home I put the AC unit in down stair but when I sleep up stairs, which I am going to do more of this year, it is just fan blowing on me.

Definitely not an excess of bees and butterflies here this year, either - I did see a couple of honeybees on the clover (our yard is also full of it), a large bumblebee on a crown vetch plant, a smaller bumble on something else that I can't remember now, and a couple of small native bees of some sort. Lots of stuff flowering right now, and I have a lot of Johnny Jump-Ups that usually are really buzzing with bees but not at present. About the same amount of butterflies - usually we have masses of painted ladies around, and have seen very few of them this year. Sad

It seems, the butterflies up North are not bothered much by the heat as they area a common sight this year.

So far I have only seen one of the white Cabbage nasties which used to flock around here. I tip my hat to you.

Larger butterflies were not really common this year, but a few float on by pretty much every week; that part of the odd feeling they are always just floating on by. I tip my hat to you.

Very few Monarchs or Painted Ladies in my yard this year; occasional Red Admiral and White Admiral, and a few Northern Pearly Eyes. Not even very many cabbage whites! I think I saw one swallowtail all summer, usually have quite a few of the butterflies, along with the cats on the dill that I let grow all over the place. Seems strange, given the rather mild winter last year Confused
