Those will be great when they flower.
Good for you planting all of those peonies on top of all the bulbs that you did.
Your garden will be great!

Thanks Caroline. I'm looking forward to spring. I had to take a break from the bulb planting to get the peonies done.

I've still got 375 bulbs to plant, hopefully I can finish those this week, and finish cleaning up the garden. I've still got the Bowl of Beauty peonies to cut back.

Some of my peony pips are swelling. Does this plant know something that I don't about the weather. This did not happen with this plant last year. It's my noid that I believe is Festiva Maxima.

Does seem a bit early......When do you normally see growth? I won't even bother looking until the end of March here.

Usually not until spring. Lady Orchid did this last year, but not this year. I have no idea why the pips are increasing, it's been unusually cold here early this year.

The 2014 peony parade is trying to start a little early. Here's one of my plants today, what the heck is this plant thinking. The cold weather is not remotely over, as we still have many days of freezing weather to come. I've mulched it with pine straw and can only hope for the best.

We typically have below freezing weather and snow/ice for a month or 2 after my peonies start coming up, most are tough enough to shrug it off with no ill effects. Mrs FDR is in that tough group! She sure is pretty though, isn't she?

This is my 1st year growing Mrs. FDR, I have 2 new plants. I hope I get to see a bloom or 2 this year. šŸ˜

Annette, make sure you post pictures if it blooms this season! Mrs FDR is one I've had for several years but the tag was lost. I have 3 or 4 that are pretty similar with no tags, I bought another Mrs FDR last fall so I can properly name at least one of my NOIDs when it blooms!

I also picked up several yellows last spring/fall, noticed your avatar, is that Bartzella? Can't wait for my yellows to bloom.....

Hi Liz, I also love the yellow peonies. The avatar is Itoh Yumi. So far it's my favorite of all the yellows that I have, and it's one of the last blooming Itohs here. The blooms are so thick, and fuller than my Bartzella.

Hi Annette, I think you told me that before, sorry to.ask a second time! It really is beautiful. Googled it and it looks like that one is being sold by Select Plus as Yellow Doodle Dandy, is that the right one? I've added Yumi to my want list!

Please don't apologize. I'm always happy to answer questionsšŸ˜ yes, the Monrovia site lists it as:

Yumiā„¢ (Beauty) Itoh Peony
Paeonia (Intersectional hybrid) x 'Yellow Doodle Dandy' P.P.A.F.

I got mine locally as a plant several years ago, grown by Monrovia. I love it.

I WISH I could get Itohs locally! I read on the Monrovia site that one of our local nurseries MIGHT carry Itohs next spring, I'll be haunting it to see! If not, I plan to get Keiko and Misaka from Chateau CharMarron and a couple from Select Plus (to include your beautiful Yumi!) next buying season. Yours is absolutely gorgeous, makes me wish for spring!

Our local nursery Pikes carries Monrovia grown plants. They're expensive, but I get instant gratification. They only sell them in the spring, so I leave them potted, and plant them in the fall.

Our HD and Lowes will also carry plants in the spring in 1 gallon pots. I've gotten a few of the more common plants from both stores. A not so common plant that I got from Lowes is Wladislawa.

I've looked at CharMarron's site, but I had not heard of Select Plus. I'll have to check them out.

Here's Wladislawa, and I also like Keiko and Misaka, however Misaka is not as yellow as Yumi.

My first experience with Select Plus wasn't very good but I think a lot of my problem was inexperience on my part. I know I saw pictures of some from SP last fall, think it was on GardenWeb, though, and the roots looked very good. They have a very good selection of Itohs, don't think they sell herbaceous or trees, or I've never noticed a link on their page. Here's their website: http://www.spi.8m.com/peonycat...

Thanks for the link Liz. Their plants look lovely. I noticed they are in Canada, were shipping costs expensive?

Please share your experience, I always want to know about suppliers, the good and the bad. There were negative comments about Adelman's on DG, I stll took a chance and ordered from them anyway, and I'm thrilled with the beautiful tubers that I received.

I'm really looking forward to next spring Smiling

My favorite place to get peonies, Itoh, herbacious and tree peonies. Lots of selection , grown themselves and shipped in Fall. Very nice roots!
