When the bottom few leaves are dried and brown, the garlic is ready for harvest. I will show you photos of the ready plants, along with tips on how to lift them from the ground and how to cure them for long term storage.

Any recommendations for an eye watering garlic or a good garlic for New England. I'm very ignorant of types. I planted supermarket produce dept. "elephant" garlic (silver skin, I think hard neck?) and the typical Gilroy (CA) garlic. All the elephant garlic yielded one huge clove of very very mild flavor. The other yielded multi-clove but smaller bulbs, also milder than what I can buy.
I find Garlic (Allium sativum 'Metechi') to be very strong. In fact if I eat it I still feel it the following day. Of course, I like my garlic that way.
