The romance of the chase...
I was able to get 4 seconds of head bobbing on video before the batteries gave out on my camera.
posted video to my blog.

They'd be very rare here, since I have never seen wild tortoises here...too dry, I guess!

Awwwwwwwwww, it's so tiny! Cute.
I don't think they're exactly hens teeth rare. I do know they are protected, at least here in FL.

Actually.... I was referring to seeing babies....
I have an entire colony of adults living at my house.... But what I've read about the little ones.... Makes it sound like reproduction is kind of a thing that the experts are somewhat baffled by.

Oh yeah, the babies. I read that something like 90% of the babies don't make it very long at all. Prey for a lot of other things plus there are diseases & so forth.

I get the little yellow ones walking down the sidewalk and then into my yard. They are so sweet! Where I live, yep, they are protected until someone wants to build a house on a lot, then, protection? What protection?

Ann, what a coincidence!!! Today, on local CBC radio, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the guest speaker was a Mr. Andrew Hebda , curator of the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History. Amongst other topics, he was talking about their one "Gopher" tortoise, which he thought was near 100 years old. I think he needs a mate!! You should contact him. Cheers!

LOL Frank! He can come down here to FL & find many. It's illegal to disturb them in any way & no way one would be allowed to remove one.

Cute! Wish we had the tortoises, but they don't seem to like my area.
