Old Dishwater and Homemade Insecticides

By Sharon
April 15, 2012

I don't ingest harmful chemicals, I don't give them to my family or my cats and I certainly don't want them near my plants or in my soil. So what should I do about those slugs, meal worms, spider mites, cabbage worms and Japanese beetles that insist on destroying my flowers and vegetables? Simple, really. I just do what my grandmother did; I save my old dishwater.

I realize this was written in 2012, but looking back on my "critter battles" this summer I now wish I had tried a couple of these. Slugs were especially bad here this summer, and Japanese Beetles and Rose Chafers only added to my misery. You can bet I'll be using some of Ninna's 'recipes' next year! Here is a picture of one of my most hated bugs- the Japanese Beetle! Thanks Sharon for a very good article (and reminder).

Beautiful picture, but oh yes, I know all about those JBs, Leon. I battle them every summer, but not for long. I learned from the best!!

Thanks and good luck next year!
