I didn't have very good luck with winter sowing. I'm going to stick to planting in the greenhouse.

That's too bad Julia. I had the opposite, my winter sowing was way too good! I was a first timer and didn't believe it could work so I sowed tons of stuff and tons of seeds of each item. You could say I was a wee bit overwhelmed this summer!

One of my new petunias for next season is the red flowered petunia exserta.
It is the hummingbird petunia, which is pollenated by hummingbirds.
Have any of you grown it?

Ah, I'm sort of glad to hear that I'm not the only one for whom WS has not worked well. I think part of the problem here is how erratic the weather can be. Plus, with the volume of snow we get here, there's not a good place to set out jugs, unless you get them set up before the snow starts. Heh, setting jugs out on top of a 4 ft snow bank is fine, until it starts to melt; then they tip over. Rolling my eyes.

I have not grown it. I may try since I think this will be the year of petunias for me! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Thanks for posting! I LOVE IT! We need to do some research and put it in the ATP database. I suspect there will be other "new" varieties and please post so we can get the info in the database

Thanks Caroline. I will research that one too. Everyone is more than welcome to enter in new varieties into the database. That would be a big help for sure. I will confirm the patent names etc, but if you initiate the new entry, it would be a great help.

Has anyone tried Can Can Harlequin? or Fuseables pink dream? Both are available from Swallowtail. Wondering if they're good choices?

I've done the Cherry Rose in window boxes when we had an old Victorian house. Beautiful! And I'm sure I got my seeds from Swallowtail. I get tons of seeds there.

I've bought from Swallowtail a lot, too. I was just wondering if those petunias I mentioned were as pretty as the pictures look, and if they were good healthy plants.
