Time to check the lawn for the distinct striped foliage of Lycoris radiata, and fatter-than-grass, noticeably upright foliage (compared to patches of similar spiderwort Tradescantia) of little white Narcissus!

Your's are ahead of my Zone 10 narcissus. Usually mine are blooming around Thanksgiving, but the weird weather this year has got everything out of sync. Mine are up, but no where blooming.

I keep digging more & more bulbs out of the grass, and never get them all (or more are showing up!) If we ever run out of room for them in my Mom's yard, I'll just have a really flowery lawn I guess. LOL! Mine is too small to make beds for them here.

I've tried taking pics from farther back, to show more clumps of bulbs, but the pics just don't show what one can see in person. Maybe I should assign this to DH, he's a much better photographer than I am. There's very little actual "grass" in the lawns in this neighborhood, it's mostly Tradescantia, Narcissus & Lycoris, with tons of various other plants that make teeny tiny flowers. The kind of lawn I dreamed about when I lived in Chemlawn territory in OH.

Neal, are Narcissus not hardy where you are? Pretty sure I used to see these in OH, but they bloom in March or April up there.

The paperwhite tazetta types that require little or no cold period typically aren't hardy here, but most Narcissus are (including several tazettas). Some of the daffs that naturalize in the north don't perform well in the south because they require longer, colder winter to bloom. One of the things I love about daffodils is there are varieties that perform well in most climates.

The front yard of this house was almost all Star of Bethlehem when I moved here. The lawn part still is, but I've worked hard to get it out of the gardens.

Those look like Lycoris bulbs to me. Those I recently dug and moved looked even more like yours than the photo below, but you get the idea. Are they big? ....say larger bulbs about tennis ball sized? That's about how big my lycoris bulbs were. They look like really big daffodil bulbs to me. In spring surprise lilies have foliage that looks like wide daffodil leaves. The foliage dies off when bulb foliage is dying off and blooms emerge in July or August.

Otherwise I'd say they're daffodils.

Thumb size. Found them all in a huge cluster. They also onion like layers all around. They really resemble my daf bus I planted though. I guess we'll find out this spring hopefully. No blooms from what I seen this past February since I moved here. Spring mystery ahead I guess

Ah, then daffodils I'm pretty sure. Sometimes they have stopped blooming because of crowding or too much shade, but survive for many years. It may take a season to recover before you see blooms, but then they'll really put on a show!

My backyard was a overgrown shade pit. I found a lot of irises back here too. Those are on que to bloom this spring though, nothing this past. I've cut several trees back here and now have PLENTY of sunshine. might put on a show this spring. They're equivalent to the sprouts in my front yard
