I'm curious about other people who grow this plant. I find its history interesting but the plant is thoroughly nasty! Living in PA I obviously cannot leave it outdoors all year. But dragging it in and out is a pain - literally! Plus, once inside for the winter, it drops virtually every leaf, making a mess and looking pretty sorry until spring when I painfully move it back outside so I can ignore it! I'm planning to move to NC in the next year and I'm doubtful this thorny friend will make the move!

Cherie: I don't grow this plant, I detest thorns and this Euphorbia really does have nasty thorns! I try to stay away from all thorny type plants. The Euphorbia milii is pretty to look at and although I know many people love them, I wouldn't want one in my garden. I took that photo when we were on vacation in southern California last summer.

I have masses of them like in Lin's picture. You just need to treat them with respect.
If I avoided all thorny plants my yard would be pretty bare! Lots of Pachypodiums, Bromeliads etc.
Mind you, as I type this the blood is running down my arm.... Hilarious! Bromeliads were the culprits there!

I keep many kinds of them. I drag them into the greenhouse every Fall and drag them out in the Spring.I don't mind. I do love them. I have small flowering ones and large flowering ones from pink to red to yellow.

Cherie, if you bring them too late in the season back into the house, they might drop their leaves. I bring mine inside usually around the end of September and place them into a warm sunny spot. I water them inside too. This way they keep their leaves, continue to bloom all Winter. I treat the "Thai Giants" the same way,
