The Hosta beds are under several inches of frozen snow right now and spring growth is several months away. I've been reviewing some of my pictures on this cold winter day and thought I would share a few.......

Now I wished I had taken photos of my plants.

New Year's resolution that I will keep because it is very doable.

I promise that I will take lots of photos from now on.

@profesora, are you familiar with the database? When you type in a name it gives you the option to add it to your list and you can check off if it is available for trade or for sale. You can set up categorizes, like one for Hostas and one for Daylilies and others.

Susan,

I do have most of my daylilies only in the database, and I did mark the ones that I will trade or sell. However, any that you want, of course, you may have it.

You already have a list of most of my hostas.

I am hoping to see more pics of your hosta. I didn't get any new shots this summer. I spent way to much time at the hospital with family. Nothing like a well maintained hosta shade garden with pretty companion plants!

I am in zone 8 and I manage pretty good with them in the ground. If I had a problem with that, I mean if I were loosing lots of Hostas every year I would just put them in pots. If you plant your Hostas in pots more cold air will get to the roots. Remember they must have good drainage, they rot easy. I never use mulch in the winter, but in summer to retain moisture and then remove it in the fall along with the dead leaves and all.
Tony Avent from Plant Delights Nursery has a lot of good articles out but the one that has helped me the most is 'HOSTAS FOR WARM CLIMATES', there is even a list of hostas you can choose from but along with his advice I like to evaluate some of my own choices and just see what happens. I hope you will try a few at least, of the low chill variety. My lowest, low chill was 'Sea Thunder', I have several.

Different cultivars seem to be happy in different zones. I have tried 'Sea Thunder' here in Zone 5b several times and have always lost it. Same in a friends garden. It is a gorgeous Hosta and I wish it would grow here. I did get 'Vulcan' last summer which is a similar color pattern.

Paul,

Thanks for the taste of spring and warmer temps! Your hosta beds are always so beautiful. Do you plan on enlarging and adding to your collection again this year?

Rose....thank you for the kind comment Will I be enlarging and adding to my collection? I have one bed which I may make a little bigger.....room for 8-10 small or medium cultivars. I discovered the Hosta House in Salt Lake City last summer. He grows lots of nice Hosta established in pots and has many cultivars and plants to choose from. Very hard to resist. Here are a few pictures of plants at Hosta House.....

Nice selection! I can see how it might be hard to resist! They sell some nice sized plants. It would be hard to stop at 6!
