Really super excited for the projected -45 to -55 wind chills this week. Plus an additional 6-12 inches of snow.

Pretty sure I could put on all the clothes I own and still be cold.

Thumbs down James. That stinks! Any chance of staying indoors where it's safe? If I had to leave the house, I'd put on all the clothes I own, and then wrap myself in my comforter. Stay safe!

As of now the university is still open. If they close I can park right behind the building and run in to do my work then go home. If not it's a 1/4 mile walk. But yes, otherwise I will be inside.

I am hoping for a January thaw…..like for the entire month of January after this next blast. Any temps in the 20's right now would be like a heat wave at this point…..not asking too much!

James, I hope those temps bypass Vermont. Right now our temperature is -17 below zero.

It made it all the way up to 14 today. We had about 6" osf snow and the wind has been blowing hard. Keeps blowing drifts across the road. The county has been by 3 times to clear the road today. Supposed to have a low tonight of 5 with steady wind again. This is not normal Maryland weather. We get snow/ice but rarely this cold. Thumbs down The kitties will be piling in bed tonight. Hilarious!

Alex you all got the worst of this round but it looks like the next one is taking aim this way. We were down to -4 this morning. Could hit 30 tomorrow before things plummet.

this morning is MUCH warmer than yesterday morning -- it's 24F this morning instead of 17. And NOT breezy, so it feels warmer, too. We're supposed to see low 40s today, high 40s tomorrow, then back in the freezer for a couple more days.

I tell ppl that ATL gets 6 weeks of winter, but it's not usually consecutive. The next 6-7 days illustrate that. Thumbs up

Mind you; I am NOT complaining!!!! You guys in the north are sure "getting it" but just to show what this winter is doing..... Here is our weather advisory & this is truly RARE for here in early January.
************************************************************
...ARCTIC COLD TO IMPACT THE REGION MONDAY INTO THE MIDDLE OF NEXT
WEEK...
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL CROSS THE AREA LATE SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT.
IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT...THE COLDEST AIR IN THE LAST SEVERAL
YEARS WILL PLUNGE ACROSS SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND NORTHEAST FLORIDA.
A HARD FREEZE WILL OCCUR OVER INLAND LOCATIONS MONDAY NIGHT AND
TUESDAY NIGHT...WITH LOWS IN THE TEENS TO LOWER 20S LIKELY. EVEN THE
NORMALLY WARMER COASTAL LOCATIONS WILL NOT BE SPARED FROM THIS
ARCTIC INTRUSION...WITH A FREEZE EXPECTED MONDAY NIGHT AND POSSIBLY
AGAIN TUESDAY NIGHT. LOW TEMPERATURES ALONG THE BEACHES MONDAY
NIGHT COULD FALL INTO THE MID 20S...PRODUCING HARD FREEZE CONDITIONS.
WITH BRISK NORTH WINDS...WIND CHILL READINGS BETWEEN 5 AND 15 DEGREES
WILL BE POSSIBLE MONDAY NIGHT...WITH ONLY SLIGHTLY HIGHER VALUES
TUESDAY NIGHT. HIGH TEMPERATURES ON TUESDAY WILL ONLY REACH THE
UPPER 30S TO LOWER 40S FOR MOST AREAS.
RESIDENTS OF SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND NORTHEAST FLORIDA SHOULD MONITOR
THE LATEST FORECASTS...WATCHES...ADVISORIES AND WARNINGS CONCERNING
THIS UPCOMING PERIOD OF EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER. IN ADDITION...THIS
IS GOOD TIME TO REVIEW ACTION FOR PROTECTING TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE
VEGETATION AND PROTECT EXPOSED PIPES FROM FREEZING TEMPERATURES.

Going to be around 64, here, today. Front moving in tomorrow afternoon and will be 18 by Monday morning. Same on Tuesday morning, but then warming back up a little where overnights are just at or above freezing. Time to pile up the old sheets and blankets around doors and the sunroom windows (older aluminum with no insulating properties AT ALL).

Good Morning Gardener's and fellow weather survivors.

Ann and Kim W, I read your weather advisory for S. Georgia/N. Florida, and Kim W for Maryland.
The next blast of arctic air is occurring because the 'jet stream' is going to dip way down into those South Eastern areas carrying with it this arctic cold that we in the North have been experiencing for days. Bring in any potted plants, and watch your pipes. Freezing pipes occur with flash freezing and thawing of the ground. If you are unsure about this, turn on a spigot in the coldest part of your home, and let it drip. This keeps water moving through the pipes. Above all, crank up the heat, and open cabinets beneath sinks, especially on outside walls, to let the pipes feel the heat from the inside of the house. Frozen pipes can be disastrous.

This morning our temps have risen to -5. By the end of the day, temps will rise to +20 degrees.A veritable heat wave for us. Our only problem today is that we have strong winds which we were spared through the snow storm. This is going to set up this next front that will begin to hit a large part of the US by Monday night and Tuesday. I do believe that after this next front moves through, we will be in a much calmer and normal weather pattern. Fingers crossed.

Alex, any time the forecast calls for sub-freezing, I've got a faucet dripping overnight (and sometimes during the day). Do NOT want frozen pipes. Thumbs up

It's now pushed its way up to 31 -- WHOO HOO! Glare Glare Glare

cold for us down here, but nothing compared to y'all. At this point, I've still lived more than half my life north of the Mason Dixon line, so I *laugh* at these chilly temps. (well, I would if I weren't frozen). The longer I live in the south, the less tolerant I become of cold.

Alex, that is good advice on keeping the pipes from freezing. Southern plumping isn't made for these temps!

Grumbling Jackson rediscovered the iris, and is having his way with them. Got to go wrangle that pup and get him away from my plants! Hilarious! Maybe I should just close the blinds in my office so that I can't catch him being naughty! But it's such a gorgeous looking day out that I don't want to miss it!

Alex, that's very good info. on opening the cabinet doors so the heat can get in there. We have been running the faucet a trickle when it's been 30 degrees but what they are saying we will get is a whole 'nuther matter! I'm wondering too if we need to have the outside spigots trickling too. We have a well here so really don't want anything on that to bust.
