OGB- are the quarterbreds & arils with reglia ancestor are the best for northern areas. Anita Moran in Maryland has good luck with some of the others.

I know that 3, of the 5 I'm planting, are OGB. Navajo Velvet, Aztec Prince, and Noble Warrior. The other 2 I actually planted last year, Lady Mohr, and Volunteer Fireman. Both of those are SUPPOSED to be "good doers" no matter where they are planted. I figure I may as well try something "new", a few JAs, a few LAs, some ABs, some species, and specX, I'll never know till I try them! Shrug! ...Arlyn

I don't understand all of the genetic symbology that well, but FWIW "Omar's Torch," Which ASI lists as OB-, seems to grow well here in Nebraska (5b). This is just my third year with it, though, so I can't say that it's been through the whole gamut of severe Midwest conditions. It survived the wet summer last year w/o a hitch, though.

diggit said:Thnks Tom for the nice comments. That was my best blue cross I ever made. Had several really blue siblings from that one. ((Altruist x Breakers) X Caribbean Dream) I will attach a couple more here of the sibs. Of course these were shot in the evening light as you can see and that intensifies the blue as you know, but still they were awesome blues. I think I only have one left here in the front yard that I saved. I pretty much lost my whole program for a few years after a painful marriage breakup. Gave a lot of things to friends and neighbors. Sold some to the locals and lost many in neglected weed patches. I still have the pics though and since I found ATP, I have been sorting through them. I still have several sdlgs. and about 175 named varieties now, so things are moving again. Nice to cheer everyone up on a cold winters day with a little color. I am just an amateur at this but I have introduced a few with Rockytop Garden. Phil Williams runs that and he visits occasionally to help me select. It is just a hobby that I love and it keeps me active as I get older. I am a stickler for wide falls and good pictures and I have a better eye than I used to. Rolling my eyes.

1/4 bred arilbreds should grow right beside your talls most will look like them. OB- means it is a oncocyclus X bearded iris there is no reglia in this OB for oncobred and the - means it is only 1/4 aril
RB reglia bred reglia X bearded
Ob oncobred onco X bearded
OGB onco- reglia cross X bearded
Any of these with a + (eg.OGB+) is 3/4 bred
Any with a - ( eg. OB-) is 1/4 bred
To anyone who would try them start with the 1/4 bred OGB- silent tears well off to work

@diggit
Marvin, hope you catch this post:

Is this one "Crucial" that was introduced last year through Rockytop Gardens? I have it on my Rockytop order list for this year. Smiling
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

Wow! So much imagination and artistry!

Glad you dragged it back to the surface Evelyn!

Beautiful Irises! It's enough to make your heart sick, most of these irises aren't available. What a beautiful marriage of form and color! Lovey dubby
