I think it is a pure spathulifolium as it is so fertile. However, this year I got a bunch of viable seed on on 'Silver Moon' and it is definitely a hybrid.

There is another Red something or other from Joy Creek too. they are similar and I have seedlings up from it crossed to Red Rover too.

I only seeded one jug of Semps this year; last year I did three, and then stupidly did four flats as well! Luckily, they're okay with sitting there in the flats over the winter now. What a job for the spring time! I see lots of crafts in my future.

This is during the summer...

Thumb of 2014-02-08/BlueFox/df87f6

and the fall of last year; amazing how much growth they've put on, and with only about half an inch of soil, with a bit of turkey grit for attempting to keep the algae at bay until they get big enough. I water the odd time with compost tea, but only if they look like they are getting a bit yellow. I'll post another pic when they emerge from under the snow bank - that might be a few months... Angry

Just an update: 56 today in 2 jugs. Other jug had to be re-seeded. I think I can handle 56 or so. Wouldn't want to be baby sitting hundreds...I have places to go, people to see...in May. Whistling

Bev,

56 is just the beginning!! When you start buying more land to raise seedlings, you know you're an addict!

During a break in the rain I did a quick peak around the yard. The semp seedlings are starting to color nicely and there should be some fun groups of seedlings to evaluate in the clinic. Quite a few have odd dark shades, especially the 'Jungle Shadows' X 'Lilac Time'. I was hoping to get purple rosettes with the shape of 'Lilac Time' but there are some patterns starting to show up too. Several have watermarks. It will be tough picking out all the ones that need a second look.

This rain is making the semps germinate like mad. Many of the pots that had nothing before the snow now have little green specs appearing.

How are yours germinating Lynn? Have you heard anything about Dave's seed project?? Cynda said he "did the Skrocki method".

I get home after dark, so can't see them until Saturday.
I couldn't stand it, I took the flashlight out and looked. The Oddity x has what looks like 3 or 4 tiny green things coming up. Hurray!

I keep looking around the area in my yard where I threw last years flower stalks but so far nothing...if I get one or two I will be very happy indeed!! Meanwhile I was taking some leaves off of one of my rosettes and found the smallest beginnings of some stolons!!! Chicks are on the way!
Hurray!

Way cool Lynn. i know you were worried about that 'Oddity' seed. 3 is better than ZERO! Hopefully you'll get some 'Oddity' types out of that very affected bloomstalk! Nothing in the pot of 'Weirdo' X 'Unicorn'. the seed on 'Weirdo' were very pale and did not look at all normal.

Keep those babies safe!!

Speaking of winter sow milk jug, here's pic of seedlings in one of the jugs that has over 50 seedlings already. They were planted Jan 15th.
I didn't want to sow more than I could handle so there's some seeds left; If there's anybody that would like some semp seeds of Noid semps. please t-mail me and I will gladly send to you.
Sorry if pics are a little fuzzy.

I'm hoping the little greenies are related or similar to the semps that were sent to me by Patty earlier last year. The pale velvety ones on the left are Sempervivum "Engles". I wouldn't mind trying to put together a living picture of these velvety beauties...
