Did I hear my name? Smiling
Bert, you must take a look at my last picture-containing post this month……
I love the Lycaste! I have been re-blooming some of the smaller flowered deciduous ones, I have Lycaste Phoebe which blooms regularly for me. But those gorgeous large new hybrids elude me, I tried and failed. But I love seeing them.

Wow Ursula, looking thru the last two months and generally catching up on this thread is like eye candy! Since my move into this cave, I've replanted my iris garden into three of my sisters gardens, so I've been busy weeding and getting in the dirt but without my yard man to help. I'm so broke down already this year and blooming time to start is this weekend here in Memphis. I'll post pictures here also, I mean into the tread of other things we grow.
Orchids are on the patio, but Monday they have to come back in for two days then out for the summer. Space is at a premium, so that's why now I have to screen by criteria like 'Bang for the Buck', Lycaste fit the bill but not the skinneri hybrids because I have always had trouble reblooming. I love your variety and often have used your site for reference but I realize that they will not do well in my conditions, except I'm keeping my angraecoid alliance. I love to see whatever is out there because I can't grow them now doesn't mean they won't be a consideration for my future GH when I get to officially be retired in Corinth maybe as soon as next year. I'll need hints on GH attached to house concerns, I like the compact size of your rooftop model. Anyway, today is Seder Supper then more daydreaming on this site.

Bert, Milton Carpenter is still living in S. Florida and still working with orchids, but he doesn't sell retail any more. Here's his site http://www.evergladesorchids.c...

I e-mailed him a while back and he says that Carter & Holmes are the retailer he chose to distribute his warmth-tolerant hybrids. But he also said 'anything with Everglades, or Carpenter in the name probably came from me'.

Bert, I don't know if you are interested but I did a blow by blow of my OC construction a couple of years ago. Here is the link: The thread "My Lanai Conversion" in Orchids forum

Thanks, Jim! I have been studying your OC, so now a great how to demo. New ideas for my next GH will be the rain barrel system and I'm really excited about the row of windows. More like a Florida room option since it will be attached to the house. And part of the porch, in front of house and must past code guys. I don't have enough light anywhere else. The windows will make it more acceptable, I'm so glad I saw this tread today! Thx

I enjoyed your previous OC construction posts as well, Jim. If you OC has an eastern exposure, it will be the same as my porch, which I enclose during the fall/winter months. I might be able to take the enclosure panels down in a couple of weeks, when our low temperatures stay at or above 50 F. For me, and this is just my opinion, an eastern exposure is best spring and summer and a sourthern exposure is best fall and winter. The angle of the sun determines this.

In the fall and winter months, my porch is used more as an "over-flow" for my tropical plants, since the two greenhouses (well three, if you count the tiny one sitting on my deck) are home to 98% of my plants. I do keep my personal, rare staghorns on the porch. I also bring in my orchid plants when they are in bud, so that I can enjoy the "coming-out party" and the blooms/fragrance. I also use it to box up my plants for shipping. The porch is now jammed full of plants, some of what I had to bring in because of our last bout of cold weather. It is not 10% of what your OC is, but it serves its purpose well. I will take some photos of the (enclosed) porch and post them when I finish uploading and publishing my mounted orchid pictures on my website.

I went to the Tampa Orchid Club meeting yesterday and came home with four new babies.

First up is Dendrobium lindleyi in bloom.
Thumb of 2014-04-23/hawkarica/3fcff6 Thumb of 2014-04-23/hawkarica/4feb38

Also, Enanthleya [Eny.] Burkhalter's Eva (Ctt. Eva x E. tampensis) in bloom. Great parents here.

The other two are not blooming:
Brsdm. Shooting Star (Brsdm. Gilded Urchin x Brs. Edvah Loo) and something I have not grown before Monn. Millennium Magic (Ctnchs. Midnight Jem x Morm. sinuata) which has a very dark, if not black, flower. It is grown like a Ctsm. We will see.

I would have flipped over the Burkhalter's Eva myself, I love it!
You will probably eventually mount the Dendrobium lindleyi?

Actually, I was thinking about putting lindleyi in a plastic basket and hanging her. Is there some reason you recommend mounting?

I am excited about Monnierara Millennium Magic 'Witchcraft'. Check out the flower: https://www.orchidweb.com/prod...

I'll treat it like a Ctsm. and see how it goes. He had one in bloom and it was just plain black.

Ursula, I fell in love with your Trichopilia! I just received two different species from EBAY today, they are very robust, and the white hennisiana is blooming. I also got marginata, I'm hot on the trail for sauvsis. I liked the spotting on the lip of yours. The fragrance is subtle until you past by. Do they like to dry between watering? And I see yours is in tree fern, any suggestions? I was thinking Phal conditions?

Oh, how nice!! I love Trichopilias.
Under my conditions here I water them daily, but they do dry up fairly quickly. I also have a mounted Trpla tortilis, a hennesiana in a basket and I few more small ones in pots. I personally like them probably more in baskets or mounted than potted.
Btw I bought the Trpla Charles years ago from Santa Barbara Orchids as Trpla Suavemargin.

I should have added, these grow in a more shaded spot here, Phal conditions sounds right.

So Santa Barbara has the suavemargin but it's now Charles and that's what you had pictured. That's the one I want. Thx, I'm going shopping at SBOE.
