Hi all..I realize I don't post here very often but I thought I would post a new blog (been a while!) and wanted to share it with you'all..I sound Southern. Nope! Northern(Wisconsin) but love you'all! The other day I was musing about how interesting if Daylilies could talk so that's what I developed the blog about! Hope you enjoy! http://www.gardensandcastles.b...

Nancy, good morning.

I also use you'all when I am teaching Spanish to help my students learn the difference between the pronouns usted and ustedes.

You'all clarifies that I am talking to more than one person without saying "you guys."

I wish you'all in your family a Happy New Year.

Dear Yankees... it's spelled y'all, and that's singular. Hilarious! y'alls is possessive, and "all y'all" is plural. Thumbs up At least in the southern-ahia (Ohio) coal-mining lingo I learned growing up (where we wore overhauls, and warshed our close, and went to see a loy-yer if we needed legal help)

I grew up calling it pop, and switched to soda after I joined the military. Never used a bubbler, but have used plenty of drinking fountains, and have buckets of water, shopping carts, ants, cricks (with water, and in my neck), and you guys is as common for me as y'all.

'Sfunny... when I moved to Texas, my friends all said: "I can tell you live in the south. You say y'all." To which I always replied - have you never listened to me before? I was saying y'all when I was knee-high to a grasshopper." Hilarious!

But I have never pahked tha cah in the gahrage, even though I've worked in Massachusetts. And I know how to pronounce WisCAHNson. Hilarious! (and I also say "oofdah" _- learned that in TX from a MN native) Thumbs up

Yep Jan. Same here in lower Michigan. Soda has always been pop here. My kids laugh at me when I say onion (onyun). I have always pronounced it that way. Hilarious!

Yes, in Strine we drop the "r"s like speakers in your States in the NE.

We say soft drinks - not soda (which is soda water) - nor pop which would be incomprehensible.

I always remember my sister saying to me when I was young, "If you won't stop saying youse for me, at least do it for my children." If you used 'you all', of course, you were shot.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
