Good to know.

When they die in the ground, I blame the winter. Other times, potted plants died during the winter or cold spring.

I think that there might be some heredity involved as well - - not for the last one pictured, but for others. About a third of the other seedlings that I lost to crown rot had Alan Lane Agin as a parent, and I actually caught the cultivar itself just as the first fan started to discolor. I dug it up and tossed the affected fans and cleaned up what remained. Shortly after, however, my dormant plants were all shutting down for the season, so I won't know if I saved Alan Lane Agin until spring. One thing for sure, I won't lose any dormant plants this winter for them not having enough cold weather! The weatherman is predicting 2-5 inches of snow here over the next 36 hours! Its the first time in three years that the word "snow" has even been in the forecast.

Nice seedlings and registered ones everyone.
I also lost a couple of registered daylilies to rot in the fall, but no seedlings that I know of. I am a little worried about what I may see when things thaw out, I have a lot of things in pots and have never experienced a winter like this one.

Fred, maybe my hosta routine would apply to daylilies as well.

If your pots are not frozen in place, turn them on their side ASAP. Thusly, before thawing starts, no liquid will accumulate on the surface of the pot. Plus, as thawing continues, there is no accumulation of water.

That is how I avoid rot on my potted hostas, over 1,000 pots, very small to rather large.

I am afraid too about how this winter will affect my daylilies. Am wondering how they are faring in these single degree temps. I wouldn't worry if it were only a day or two, but this is bordering on scary.

Vickie,

All this snow that we have covering the daylilies should provide a lot of insilation from the deep freeze.

I would be concerned about late planted ones. My late arrivals, September and October, were potted and by November, they were placed indoors. About a dozen were placed in a spare room in the house with a western exposure window. I keep the house temperature at 65° during the day, and at 59° at night.

The others, 252, were placed in a cool greenhouse set to minimum temperature of 40°. As we have more sun and longer days, the temperature will rise naturally.

As the ones in the house produced scapes, they were moved to another room to show off their blooms.

Wow nice seedlings Larry! Gorgeous color on the 12-A-5 seedling, that white toothy edge really makes it pop. The last one was beautiful, too. Pomegranate Lemon Aide, never seen that one before, had to look it up.

Gee, this thread has loads of very nice toothy
daylilies. It's difficult to choose a favorite.

I didn't realize there are teeth in all colors, and
eye and edge as well. Wow, I am so behind the
times. Crying

BRIAR PATCH is one that always catches my eye. Does it have many splotchy openings? I got rid of MORT MORSS because it was so splotchy here. My favorite purple toothy daylily is not registered. It's a seedling by Judy Davisson that's never splotchy and always perfect. I keep hoping she will introduce it at some point.
