I always say that's what I'm going to do with Glads...just leave 'em in the ground, and forget 'em....but I usually get "cheap", and dig/pull them ,to save . Seems everyone has deals on "cheap" glads, and they give lots of color for just a few pennies....Arlyn

I leave my glads in the ground they do just fine. However, this was an exceptionally brutal Winter and I may have lost a few.

Well got over being sick and have done my taxes so back to normal life, here is the photo of my son like I said I would post. This is me pinning on his retirement pin. It was a great ceremony room was packed with family, friends and military personnel. He got several awards, I was so proud.

Oh Vi! There you are!! Green Grin! How good to see you!

What a wonderful photo! And what a handsome son!! He doesn't look old enough to retire -- but he looks very proud and emotional at the moment. I'm glad you got a good photograph of that occasion -- too often we sail through them with no memento of the event.

What will your son do, now that he's retired from the military?

Mary Ann, Debra and Arlyn. Thank you for your kind words.

Mary Ann, he took a couple of weeks off, then went to work with his step brother who has a sign business not sure about that after 21 years of being an instructor.

We had several inches of rain here, it down poured all night and all day here, everything is saturated.

Mary Ann, I do have the first daffodil open from the ones you sent me last year, its beautiful.

Oh good, Vi!! Mine are just starting to open -- so good to see some color out there!! But I'm afraid that I lost the lilies that you sent me last year -- frost-heaved out of the ground, just like many of my new Irises. There is one little clump that *may* survive. This has just never happened to me before............. Sad

Speaking of losses -- Vi -- when I sent you Irises last year, did I include Swazi Princess? I'm trying to find someone who got rhizomes of that Iris from me, who will send me back a rhizome when theirs is well established.

Mary Ann, I don't remember seeing Swazi Princess on the list you sent me but I have looked it up on the net and when mine bloom I will check them out. I did have tags on my iris and daylilys but the darn squirrels around here like to dig up the tags and scatter them around or cart them off. I hope I do have that as its a beauty. I know somewhere I still have that list you sent me but I can't seem to find it right now.

I know everyone has suffered some rot and I am worried about that also after all that rain we had my ground is saturated and they are saying we are to get more rain. Grumbling

I will have some more of those Gloriosa lilies for you in the fall.

OK -- I know I sent Swazi to someone(s) because I thinned it last year, replanted and shared the remaining rhizomes. But I don't keep record of what I send to whom, so I'm just hoping that whoever got one will read my request. But I sent out a LOT of boxes last year -- plus shared a lot locally -- so it's a crap-shoot.

Hope you don't have any rot issues with your Irises.

Thank you for your generosity with the Gloriosa's. Lovey dubby

diggit said:Hi Lucy,
Phil has not seen most of these due to the
fact that he lives 350 miles away and could never be here of course to catch all of them in bloom. My program has suffered the last few years for a variety of reasons and mostly I have sent him photos of the better ones. If I have one that I think is marketable I will send it to him to grow. He has one or two growing in his garden right now and I have a couple more I plan to send this summer. He does all of my introductions after I register them. Many of these are no longer here in existence but glad you like them.
