We still have snow on the ground but clear blue skies day after day for over two weeks. Temps in the am are in the teens getting up to the 30 and 40's late in the day. I put a cover on one of my hoop raised beds (4x8) to hurry the snow melt. I want to plant cold hard seeds in that one as it melts first each year. Begonias, iris and dahlias growing at various stages in the garage under lights. I took cuttings from the only geranium I had and now have five little sprouts doing great. May buy a different one and take cuttings from it now also.

Pond still has thin ice on half of it. Just a man made pond in the back about 15x19 and 3.5' deep. Two fish in the skimmer where they have been dozing for weeks. All others in caves under the big rocks at the deeper end. Can hardly wait to see who made it through the winter.

My sedum and semps are showing signs of life. High of 73 today with a strong south wind. My friend gave me a never used cold frame. It is about half put together. Hopefully the other half will get done this weekend. I want to plant my beets, carrots, spinach, kale, and lettuce in there.

Almost all of the same in my winter-sown things are up.

You are a little ahead of us in zone 3!
But it is encouraging--- a few bulbs near house are coming and one sedum type plant in full sun.

My favorite sign of spring this year is that they were able to start construction on the addition to my house yesterday! Hurray!

I don't know which has me more excited, the new addition or the new flower bed that's going to go next to it! Hilarious!

Are they bunching onions? I am trying from seed for the second year only thinning harshly. I let them get too thick and they never matures and just rotted. Same with garlic. So spacing well this year.

Onions in my cold frame. I also have lettuce and beet seeds in the ground. I planted them a week ago.

I set out my snap pea starts a couple of days ago, and they are looking great so far. And set out a try of lettuce starts in a sheltered area to see how they'd do, and so far, so good! My clematis are budding out and there are tiny shoots on some of the roses, too!

When we get a warm day like today, my greenhouse overheats, and so I have started moving plants outside. Pots of culinary sage and mint, an alstroemeria, and a couple of small containerized shrubs are now sitting outside the greenhouse door - but close enough that I can put them back inside in a hurry when frost is forecast.

Sounds like most of you are ahead of us here in zone 3.
But it is moving closer--I was able to fill pots outside today.
Everything inside needs potting on,-just as good weather comes.
But end of week is supposed to be rain and snow.

This is very strange weather for our area. Normally, I can't even think about setting anything out till late May or early June. The plants I've put out are just little sacrificial offerings. But the roses are starting to show green shoots and the lilacs are definitely leafing out. Very odd.

It was a fine day for working in the garden today, about 60f, light overcast, almost no wind. Dug up 4 shrubs, replanted 2 in a better location, still haven't decided where the other 2 will go. Set up my fountain, no water yet as I know it will freeze again, put my garden ornaments out. Supposed to rain tomorrow so that will be good for the replanted shrubs. Everything is really starting to grow. Saw the first hummingbird of the year late this afternoon. Green Grin!

You have hummingbirds already?
I am growing the hummingbird petunia (petunia exserta) and other colourful plants.
There are usually a few hummingbirds in the summer.
