It is always the case that the plants that we are most anxious to see open takes the longest. Rolling on the floor laughing

This is the second ITOH that I bought 3 years ago, and have been waiting a long time for it to bloom. I am leaving on vacation April 17th and was afraid that it would not open by then, and it would be totally gone by the time I came back in 3 weeks. I was very pleased today when I was greeted by this in the morning

It is supposed to be First Arrival, which it obviously is not, but I don't mind. The yellow would do nicely here. Hopefully when it is fully open, someone will recognize it.

Thank you!
No idea (name). Lost the tag, but I remember it simply said "tree peony" and a cute pic with the bloom.
I am thinking about taking some cuttings from the one by the church and try to graft it.

Let us know how the grafting goes Fixpix. I would love to try that. My tree peonies are out of ice and snow mostly but no where near growth. Course last year they didn't do so well either. All the herbaceous are going gang busters, well at least they are breaking dormancy early, even the ones that were puny last year. So I have hope for the trees. One Itoh is out but Cora Louise always drags her feet, teasing me that something happened to her. I love her best of all I think. Until I see the new ones I got a few years ago bloom. Mine usually bloom the year after planting (herbies and itohs).

I need to try grafting too. Someone wrote a tutorial on it, but I need to find it and will repost (unless someone else knows exactly where it is and posts it sooner)

The two ITOH that I have been waiting on has OPENED!! Hurray! Just in time to, since I am leaving on vacation tomorrow morning.

The ITOH that is not First Arrival has fully opened - it has about 8 buds total, and has grown a lot in the past year. Now that it is fully opened, I am hoping someone can ID it. It is more of a lemon yellow.

This is Garden Treasure. This one has a light tinge of orange mixed with the yellow.

I got it from Bannister Gardens last year, and it bloomed this year. Has two buds, and I was really anxious to see what it looks like. I won't be back home until May 7th, and I was afraid that I was going to miss it's opening all together.

Thanks, Celia.

This is the last of my tree peonies to bloom - Kinkaku.

In this first photo, you wouldn't even know that the plant was blooming. It has weak stems and the flower heads just kind of hangs down. What I do is find some forked branches, and prop the blooms up. There was about 7-8 blooms. Quite a difference in the before and after.

I don't know if all of the Kinkakus is like this. The blooms are quite striking and makes a great cut flower.

That wraps it up for my tree peonies and my 3 ITOHs. First bloom was March 19, last blooms are now, so my one month show is over. My herbaceous ones are about half done.

I'll be watching out for postings from the rest of you. Thumbs up

Not bad. I love that Garden Treasure. ITOH means it behaves like a herbaceous?
Keeps coming back from the ground each spring?

Yes, Mary. All I need is some cool piece of tree peony and then some info. I also remember a good tutorial somewhere. Didn't seem too complicated, as I... remember Smiling

Hi Diann, your blooms on the 2 ITOHs and Kinkaku are stunning. The 1st picture looks like ITOH Yumi, hybridized by Don Smith.

FixPix. Cute guess but Itoh is the name of the hybridizer. But you are right. They die to the ground then come up like herbaceous. they usually have reddish or copper sort of shaded leaves. Really pretty. I have Cora Louise and Julia Rose. Can't remember if Garden Treasure and Garden Border are Itoh or not. Also called intersectionals.

Yes, garden treasure is an ITOH. It was on sale at half off so it was in my price range.

Yes. Mine was on sale also, or so I thought then found that it was actually only a little less than some others sell them for. Boy do prices vary. But then so does the robustness of what you receive.

This is supposed to be Kao (we'll see!)

Hanakisoi was my must-have for last year. I bought one and it didn't show growth this spring, so I bought another one at a nearby green grocer. The first one is now starting to sprout - very very late - and rather weakly. I definitely won't be seeing blooms from either this year, so I'll just have to look forward to yours, zencat!

I had three tree peonies showing colour and outgrowing their sepals over the last month, but then my shima nishiki sprinted ahead in a little over a week and is beginning to open. There is a chance that my daughter, who likes to "help" garden, may have scrambled the name tags. So if this doesn't look like it, let me know; however, the petals do appear to have the quality of crepe paper.

Thumb of 2014-04-26/Pwinget/ce9d60

This one was labeled Kao, but it doesn't look like it at all. It looks like kokuryu nishiki maybe? Which is fine with me, as I had wanted that one anyway, but I'll still have to get Kao in the future.
