Schreiners has their summer sale going on! I got a few including Captain's Choice which has very deep blue falls, if the pics are accurate.

There are a couple of pictures in the data base by Betty, You should look at them, as her pictures run pretty true to color. I have been fooled a few times by Schreiner's pictures so now I always check them out with other sources before I buy from them.

I agree with Tom. I always check the database now to narrow down my buy list, because the bloom can look a lot different from a vendor picture.

I have been blessed this year by receiving many gorgeous blues from the generous Iris folk here and on Cubits, so I won't be buying any anytime soon. But I did skim through the site and saw some beauties. Thank you for posting the sale notice, Celia. Smiling

I took your advice and the colors appear the same. My tablet shows the colors a bit darker than the desktop but still...a gorgeous iris.

Tom - Thanks for reminding me to double check. I was looking at this iris on Scheiners: http://www.schreinersgardens.c...
And the DB shows something close, but not quite: Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Dakota Smoke')

It is the same plant. They just put out the "most Fancy" picture of it that they had.

Greg - Yea, but it looks so much different.. Scheiners shows it a lot more red whereas it's not, more purply. But it is the same plant. Glad that rose companies aren't the only ones to do that!!

The first year I saw Dakota Smoke advertiesed I though how nice, I better get that one, but then when I saw it in real life at an Iris garden, I hardly recognized it, and wouldn't want it.

Funny that you chose Dakota Smoke as an example, because the database pictures are exactly why I didn't end up buying that exact same iris!

It's so nice to have a place to look at the real flowers, not a touched up glamorous pic in the catalogs.

I'll also vote for 'Absolute Treasure' and I. pallida. I've heard many good things about 'Clarence', but I'm waiting another year or two to decide. It's maiden bloom was ok..

I was so excited when Sapphire Gem bloomed. That was it's very first bloom for me. I received it in a trade in 2012 and thought I might have lost it over the winter. I hope it increases quickly since I would love to see it in a clump.
