By dave

With a brand new baby in the house we had to skip last week's podcast, but we're back now! In today's episode we get caught up on the usual goings on, and we discuss a few common gardening mistakes (and how to avoid them!) We also have a bonus segment today on our Pinboard of Bad Ideas!

Having read most everything on ATP that even remotely applies to me, I really look forward to the podcasts each week. Now, if you would please tell me what is the YouTube Website name, I can watch them!
K Thank You!

Dave & Trish - I laughed and laughed at your bantering back and forth! You two are so funny! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Dave - I want to see photos and info about your key-hole raised beds. Is there a thread on ATP about the ones you built and are growing veggies in? I'm really interested in making one in my yard.

Have you seen the Black Cow compost website where they have a project that shows how to grow tomatoes right out of a compost bag? Reminded me of your bad pinterest idea of grow bags.

You are so right about the $10 holes for planting! I too have made that horrible mistake! I was hoping for the best as you were, Trish, some plants do survive, but most don't. (sigh) Amend, amend, amend!

You both had lots of good advice in this podcast about avoiding mistakes! Thanks! I really enjoyed it!

Great episode once again!

I made notes for commenting! ;)

Wisteria: An alternative if you like wisteria is the native variety, Wisteria frutescens. I've never actually grown it but have seen it in the wild. It's supposed to be less aggressive.

There *is* a Texas invasives website: http://www.texasinvasives.org/ It covers fauna as well. Here's the prohibited list of plant species: http://texasinvasives.org/plan... I think Chinese tallow is supposed to be on there too as per a Houston Chronicle article I read.

Gardening as a spouse: It's too funny to hear some of the banter between y'all...my husband and I definitely have differing opinions on some gardening topics!

SFA plant sale: We're trying to go to it next week...looking for some natives that we can't find elsewhere.

Tilling: PLEASE do a tilling podcast. We built six raised beds last year for our veggies and brought in good soil (not bagged!) to begin and then add our own compost to it as we rotate crops through. My husband has this reasoning that he feels he has to till in the compost each and every time. I'd be fine with turning with a shovel a couple of times, but I don't think there's a need to till a raised bed! (See: gardening with a spouse!) I'd love to hear more points of view on tilling.

Update on the raspberry leaf tea: My midwife gave me the ok to drink it and I tried it for the first time the other day. A bit on the woody/earthy side but not bad. I'm thinking a cold brew might be better.

Great to hear the podcast again!

Becky, I posted some photos of my keyhole beds to a previous podcast thread, I can't find it at the moment. I'll get some new photos soon and get probably publish it as an idea so everyone can see what I'm doing.

Misti, thanks for all that info. I had forgotten about the texasinvasives.org website - good to have that reminder. Thumbs up I'll definitely do a tilling (or actually, "no till") podcast in the near future!

Misti- I remember thinking that the RRL tea was very "earthy" when I first started drinking it. I've been drinking it for so many years now that I'm used to it. Try adding mint and/or honey to help with the flavor.

Vic- I feel great. One of my best recoveries- thanks for asking! Group hug

Hi Dave and Trish,
I now remember what one of my previous questions was : What is the difference between an invasive and an aggressive reparative? I am taking Geoff Lawton’s online PDC for the second time and I am somewhat confused because he shows that nature brings in reparative species to fix the landscape.
Thank you so much for the podcasts and this wonderful website. I really enjoy all that you both bring to my life Lovey dubby
