Debra, you sound like the perfect candidate to try potted hostas. Small hostas would look very nice on table tops or in porches. The miniature hostas look most attractive in shallow, wide containers planted in groupings.

lovemyhouse said:I have only tried about eight different hostas (not willing to water). June is THE most heat and drought hardy of them all, with Mighty Mouse a close second.

I have all those and 'Golden Tiara' has them beat hands down...and does it in full sun! LOL.

Notice how wide the gold margin is in full sun. Big Grin

Might want to put the whole Tiara Group on your list! Hurray!

I have quite a few others that are not Tiara. The smaller hostas are more in demand because of their sizes.

I have a really small yard and tiny dollhouse, so space is at a premium.

I'll put Golden Tierra on my list for sure, but it will be in the shade. I guess it is a strange tic in my brain, but the idea of Hostas in full sun just does not appeal to me, it makes me fill like I need to put an umbrella over them, or maybe smear them with sun block. Hilarious!
Today I took a couple of pictures of 'Albo-Marginata,' two of the plants have been up for over a week, the third is just showing pips and they are growing very fast.

My Golden Tiara is in dappled shade right now and it is not as pretty. I want to move it to part sun at least.. for maximum gold color. I saw other stuff pepping out back but did not ever get my shoes on. LOL. Here is Montana getting happy!

I brought a few potted ones inside to force earlier growth (not very patient), and here is one that I like. It's labeled 'Junior Miss', but it doesn't look like the one on the HL website. Not sure what it really is, but it has some interesting streaking. I hope it's not infected with the hosta virus, but it's been in a pot since I got it, so I'm not too concerned about it infecting others.

This morning when I went out I found :
'Zounds' it does not seem to have multiplied at all and does not seem to be any larger so far, it has struggled the last two years, and I would not have been surprised if it did not return this year.
Thumb of 2014-04-14/Seedfork/b57788

I kept searching and shifting mulch and found 'Earth Angel' , it seems to be about the same as last year so far. Still, I was glad to see it made it for another year, this bed has been pretty good with Hostas emerging.
Thumb of 2014-04-14/Seedfork/ab8911

Then out of the corner of my eye I spy some new green growth. There is no tag and I have no memory(not surprising) of planting a hosta in this location, but there it was. I will have to wait awhile to get an ID on it.
Thumb of 2014-04-14/Seedfork/55bd78

But finding this hosta reminded me that I did have a hosta that should be located just a few feet away, I searched a while and never could find a tag nor a hosta. I came back out after lunch and was moving a couple of hosta that had come up in the middle of my paths and I saw some new growth, it was the hosta I had been looking for earlier, 'Minuteman". I had walked all over it earlier and it was being held down by the mulch on top of it. You can tell by the photo that it would have been up a couple of days earlier had I not be packing in down under the mulch.

Paul2032,
I grew this hosta from seed that came from North Carolina, it looks very much like the 'Invincable' you show, what do you think?

Hosta do not come true from seed so probably not Invincable . It looks like a ventricosa to me......

Paul2032,
Thanks, I think I knew that in a previous life. I guess that means I can just tag it as 'Seedfork's Plain Green Hosta From Seed'. Anyhow, I like it a lot and it is doing great at filling in some empty spots

Seedfork I have a few seedlings I dug up from around the yard. They would be growing all over the place when I had midnight ride, such viable seed!! LOL.

First blooms in 06/2012 I planted these all around the tree. Aren't they sweet?

Here are some sprouts this week. Montana has gotten big!

virginiarose,
Looks like that 'Abiqua Moonbeam' is a good multiplier.
I assume you decided to get rid of 'Midnight Ride" any particular reason?
