Nope, not the vestige of an alp here. Our house is on "high ground" about 29ft. above sea level. I think the highest point of land in the whole state of Florida is under 400ft. but some of the bridges are higher than that.

One evening when they launched a space shuttle 150 miles away on the other coast, we saw its vapor trail go up quite clearly. Not much high ground between here and Cape Kennedy either.

I was born and raised in British Columbia, though. Alps aplenty there. We raised our kids in Utah, too, 20 minutes to 7 major ski resorts. We were very alpine.

In seven days I will be headed down to Miami for a four-day stay. Though we will be there for the Orange Bowl, I have already told my group that I am renting a car just so I can visit a botanical garden and a nursery or two. Hopefully some of those will be open that time of year. I will be disappointed if I don't bring a couple of orchids home with me. Like I REALLY need more orchids, huh?

Miami area has a lot of nurseries that I use to buy from, once a year when I sold on ebay.

Drove down, and returned with a trailer road of plants.

Ken, it might be worth a phone call or e-mail to the nurseries you really want to visit to see if they're open on the dates you're there.

Otherwise, you might beat yourself up in the awful Miami traffic to get to a place only to find it "closed for the holidays".

I have to figure out some way to do that, Elaine. My problem is that I don't even know where I am going, much less any nursery names. I guess I will just have to do some research and see what's within relatively easy driving distance from my hotel. Then I can make some contacts.
