I love the pictures with Lupine but it can be so invasive up here I have been afraid to plant it. I think I will this year but put a collar around it about 6-10" deep to control it's growth. Do you know what the root structure is like? Deep? Spreads by runners?

I don't have a problem with these red lupines being invasive. I think the common purple/pink are invasive for some. It does reseed itself. If you get rid of the seeds before they mature, I think would help. Mine don't have runners. The roots aren't overly deep. I've let a few seeds go and if they weren't red, I pulled them out right away.

Okay. I just bought a packet of lupine seeds. Will plant in pots and put them outside as I assume they are cold hardy. Should winter sow quite well. Thanks for the info.
