Tutorial: Easy-Peasy Raised Beds

By fiwit
October 28, 2013

When I first moved into my house, I diligently dug flower beds by de-turfing the 20-year-old Zoysia grass and tilling up the red Georgia clay. Then one day I realized I could simply build raised beds, and it cut my bed-creation time in half. I can now build an 8ft by 16ft raised bed in about a day, and here's how I do it:

Can you post the pics of your larger ones you did? I am getting ready to build 3 and I would really like to see how the larger ones look. I think I would like to do the main one in my front yard a little larger than the one you have pictured here in this article.

Thanks!
Thank You!

The only thing I would do different on this one (above) is I would make that center divider a full wall. I could have saved 3-5 bags of dirt if it was a wall. I made another one, the weekend after I did this one, and split it lengthwise. So it's 8x16, but 4x16 of it is one height, and 4x16 of it is higher. Don't know where those pics are. This will eventually be another tutorial -- you might have just given me the push I needed to write it. Thumbs up

They look Great!! Hurray! I just went and got the landscaping tembers this past weekend. Got really lucky and found them on sale for $.99 each!! What a Steal! The one with the 4 x 16 at two different levels is an interesting idea! May have to try that one! Thanks for all the info. I look forward to your next tutorial.

When I find them at $1 each, I buy 4-6 dozen and store them. nodding

I like the two-tiered look, myself. Next up, I should do an octagon or something.

I bought 50! Guess that was a good start. Thumbs up Octagon would look really nice for a front yard!
