I retired from Shell after 41 years, and I absolutely loved my job since I was in sales. I made good money, great bonuses and received numerous awards and recognition. I loved my customers and was made for sales since I am an extreme extrovert. I could not, however, handle the politics and other things that made my job so hard and could picture myself having a heart attack at work. In 2011, when we reorganized again, as we did just about every year, I asked for a package and it was approved the next day. For over a month, no one could stand to look at me because I was just beaming with joy, and I haven't regretted it one day. I have found that I am so much busier than I ever was when I worked and healthier too since I am not sitting at a desk all day. I have gotten tired of people who are still working, asking me "what do you do all day - nothing". I decided that I needed an appropriate response. The last time someone asked me that, I replied "If you do nothing all day when you retire, you don't have a life!" That shut the person up and they've never mentioned it again.

Thanks again for all the welcomes. As you can tell, I'm not shy and look forward to sharing and seeing pics of everyone's favorites. I'm sure my wish list will even be longer now.

Vickie - I wasn't thrilled about RV either since it's just a plain red and it took me many years to purchase it, but I'm glad that I finally did. It is beautiful and very reliable, and it's hard to believe that a dormant does so well here in Houston. It's always at the top of the popularity poll for our region. I'm sure you can tell that it's in my pic also.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Well, since I can't retire yet, my Monday morning stunk (payroll was awful this time around). I'm hoping the rest of the day will be better.

I hope to join y'alls ranks in about 5 years! Just around the corner Thumbs up

Vickie, your 5 years will fly by. I used to say that the only thing that I had in my bucket list was to live until retirement and I made it. Now I'll have to come up with some other things.

I remember when I was still working, one of the guys that I adored retired, and I would hear from him every now and then. One of things he told me was that when you are retired, you have 5 Fridays and then Saturday and Sunday. He was definitely right!

Likewise. I've always enjoyed the activity of working.
And, property taxes keep going up and I'm thinking maybe a few bucks off daylilies might help a tad.

I agree, Pat. I have always enjoyed working and have always (with one exception) had jobs that I really enjoyed. I am afraid that when I do retire, I will miss working outside the home.

There are advantages to not working for others for pay--means you can 'work' on things just for you. Smiling

Oh I am 10 years from retiring. I have to maximize those benefits now as a single person, so I need to be at least in my late 60's. Technically I am classified as part time, although I work more than 20 hours a week, usually 30ish. But I also commute 2 hours daily.

And besides, there is all that volunteer stuff - 4H, American Legion, clerking at beef sheep and swine shows...... And those adult kids of mine.

So does this make me semi retired, or semi working?

Welcome Nancy! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Your retirement is Shell Oil's loss, and most definitely our gain here on ATP! nodding

Btw, If you haven't discovered the Lily Auction (LA) yet, you probably will soon enough. Let me warn you, it's addictive. Hang onto your wallet, cuz it's so easy to rationalize just how much you need that extra daylily plant(s). It's called the ever-expanding daylily syndrome. It's highly contagious! Whistling

Yes, Nancy. Don't go near the auctions. Those stunningly beautiful plants are only there to get your money by buying them.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
