Do you need walkways in your garden? I've been using used carpet for my pathways for years. It's easy on the knees while planting and weeding, holds moisture in the soil, reduces soil compaction, and blocks weeds
My only hesitation would be the hauling it out to the curb, cut into small squares, for the garbage pickup (they require the small squares to pick it up at all) when it's had its life inthe garden.
I HAVE used it out there - just a ~5x5 piece. And it's still out there. If someone has access to scraps (or runners!) it's a great idea! Works like a charm.
Our trash guys will pick up anything that you put out. Rugs, furniture, appliances, they don't take construction waste but if you put it out a bit at a time in a can they will take that, too. We can also burn weather permitting.
