Very gorgeous photos. That's a butterfly bush?

I have never been lucky enough to take clear photos of butterflies in my own yard/garden. Bees, wasps, hornets, and all kinds of things don't mind me prancing lightly about while inching closer and closer to get a photo. But butterflies, no. If I have my camera, they won't land on anything in my yard.

Maybe it will be different where I live now. But all I have seen here are a bunch of those white moths - many of those all day long. Treasure liked to chase them. Only caught one once. Itty Bitty may be a bug hunter after all. Twice today, I saw her interested in bugs. Once, she was tracking something in the melon patch. I had seen a wasp under the spot she was focused on, about five minutes before, so I directed her clear of the melons. Then later, the roommate and I got a little too excited when her eyes were tracking a white moth. I like when my dogs show an interest in nature, even if it is bugs and insects. Although I taught Reba and Treasure that bees are just about sacred, so they can only be watched. Reba loved to sit and watch bees and the birds for hours. Treasure always went in search of something she was allowed to hunt or dig up.

If not, you will have to try Janet. I bet she'll know in a heartbeat.

Hi Debra, yes I can say the first bug is a Tumbling Flower Beetle in the family Mordellidae. I would say Mordella marginata ..

The baby bee in the following link is Merodon equestris, a bulb fly.

I'll be back later to look at anything else anyone wants to know about, gotta get outside now.

Yes Debra, it's a Bee Fly in the family Bombyliidae, they are parasitic to bee nests.

There's several which are very similar in your part of the world, Hemipenthes sinuosa looks to be the best match.

Other similar ones which may or may not be in TX ..

Does that mean if we want bees, we don't want them around?

No, not at all Debra. Nature provides in different ways, most bees have a parasite which live off them, the larvae either feed on the debris in the nest or consume some of the larvae or only the food, but not all.

The food chain at times seems ghastly, but all species should be able to survive, parasitic or kleptoparasitic species are probably designed to keep numbers at a sustainable level.

There are not only diptera parasites, there are also bees which are parasitic to other bees, they are called 'cuckoo bees'.
