Oh, I was hoping this was a current thread. My daughter has relocated to Layton, UT. So glad to see that hosta can do well there. Do you grow them now Gary? I was wondering if they need a lot of water in the area?

Hi, Teresa. Although I now live in Florida, we lived in Utah for 21 years while our kids were growing up and they still live there, so I visit very often, and plant their gardens for them.

Hostas do grow wonderfully, but yes, they need regular water through the summer months because it is SO dry.

The Hosta House nursery in Salt Lake City, up on the east bench is a real treat to visit, so if you go to visit your daughter, be sure to make a little trip there! But, all the good nurseries carry nice hostas.

Thanks guys for letting me know. Hosta, once established are tough plants. I plan on sending out a mixed box for them.

Make it soon, Teresa. My daughter says although it's been cool and rainy for May, they've had some really warm days already. When I was there a month ago, her hostas were jumping up, and ready for fertilizer and slug bait (which I did).

When do you think it would be best to send hosta? Maybe the fall or early next spring when they are just breaking thru?

Sorry to hear about your injury Paul. I hope you're on the mend and will be able to get out and enjoy your beautiful gardens soon. Actually, what I'm saying is I hope you're able to get out there and get pictures so I can enjoy your beautiful gardens! Take care and listen to those therapists!

I agree Hope you heal fast, Paul. I'm with Rose - I think physical therapists are some of the great healers of this world. They do a lot more for you as far as getting your full function and strength back than the doctors do. Doctors just want to write you a scrip and get you out the door (after they charge many thousands for doing surgery etc.)

We look forward to seeing your lovely pictures as soon as you're able.

Oops, I just saw this, Paul. Very sorry about a broken hip, ouch. Best wishes for recovery.

Maybe someone can wheel you around and you just push the button on the camera. You do take great hosta photos.

I feel your pain Paul. I'm currently in rehab for shoulder surgery and every day that I can be out in the garden feels more therapeutic than the rehab center can ever do for me! I know it's more mental than physical, but I feel that is a huge part of successful physical therapy! I would like to be 100% right now, but it will come with time...

I agree with both the previous posts. Your garden looks fine, Paul and getting back to your regular activities is what will help you regain your strength and balance. But still keep on doing all that stuff that the physical therapists give you, otherwise you lose ground to the injury that you never quite regain.

Somebody must have been giving your garden some TLC while you were laid up, too. Well done to them!

Paul, I enjoy looking at your beautiful hostas. I grow maybe less than a dozen, so not on the same scale as your enticing pictures. Hope your recovery goes smoothly.
