Hi, Cat,
Welcome to HIPS! Echoing what Arlyn said, there are a lot of nice people who are really unto historic irises, and we love new members. The HIPS sale just started today, and it's not too late to order if you want some interesting old irises for your garden. I'm in far northern Michigan, and the historic irises are my best performers. :)

Members do quite a bit of trading of irises, too - a lovely member just helped me find the elusive 'Copper Frills'. Anyway, we Iris Nutz are a friendly group and it's nice to have you aboard.

My order is placed! I started with a very long list, and narrowed it down to 10.

Aphrodite
Chantilly
Chief Moses
First Violet
Helen Collingwood
Jean Cayeaux
Mary Pickford
Pink Magnolia
Rheingauperle
Valor

Who else ordered?

Sherry, after a loooonnngg winter I had a plethora of bloom stalks. I was visiting them, touching them talking to them........ then the storm. I was bagging broken bloom stalks and fans. I was in a sad mood. what can a person do? buy more irises. I am afraid I went a little overboard and the list is too long to type here. The smallest order is four and the largest is more than a .... well, you know. I am preparing a new area to take the irises....most are medians. I like your list. you will have some beauties!

Well, I agonized over my "want list", really trying to get it down to ten, but 12 was as close as I could get! I'm sure tempted to get more, anyway, there are LOTS more I would like to grow, but, like the little boy said after his 3rd piece of pie, " I'm getting pretty full! better just have a 1/2 piece , this time !"....arlyn

Well, I WAS trying to slip in just under the "insane" mark, this year Rolling my eyes. , but, I failed!! I'm blaming "wrong" iris! I HAVE to get test plants, to see what they really are! And the REAL iris needs to be ordered for a replacement! So, see, it's NOT my fault !! Really !! Whistling ....Arlyn

I'm sure there are people who think I'm insane with my plant obsessions... but at least I'm not collecting trees anymore. Iris are small by comparison.
Oh, and that's just my HIPS order.. I've got about 50 others spread out among several growers... they're small, right?

Oh Arlyn Rolling on the floor laughing you are my favorite kind of insane!

Sherry, irises are very small compared to trees. You can have many hundreds and it will be fine. Smiling

Suggestion: submit an order including both first choice and second choice varieties. Last year I missed some of my first choice [not enough donations or high demand] but got most of the second choice. By submitting both up front it should speed up the process of having to contact you saying more selections are needed due to demand or whatever. The second choice list could also be useful for any bonus distributions.
There is also the possibility of an additional sale of "leftovers" to be on the lookout for.

The " cut back", and "next year" are both sort of vague terms... I use both a lot, but in actual fact...I'll "cut back" on my planting, just at the time they "plant" me...and I sure do hope that isn't "next year" !! Rolling on the floor laughing ...Arlyn
